드라마 <시그널>의 서사구조와 의미구조 분석

Abstract

본 연구는 드라마 <시그널>의 서사구조와 서사전략의 의미를 분석하는데 그 목적이 있다. 특히 <시그널>이 대중적 성공과 작품성 모두를 성취할 수 있었던 것은 <시그널>의 독특한 서사구조가 그 배경이라는 것에 주목했다. 또 다른 <시그널>의 성공 요인으로는 현실에서 매일같이 보아온 사회적 문제로부터 정의를 찾고자 하는 집단적 무의식을 통한 공감대 형성이라 볼 수 있다. <시그널>은 수사드라마에 시간초월모티프의 서사구조를 섞으면서 정통 수사극과 다른 스토리의 다양성과 복합성을 띠고 있으며 형식적인 독특함과 함께 시청자들도 알고 있는 미제사건을 해결해가는 방식을 취하고 있다. 이는 시간초월모티프가 가지는 판타지성과 수사물이 가지는 리얼리티를 동시에 추구했다는 점이 다른 드라마와 차별화 된 <시그널>의 서사전략으로 파악된다. 또한 시공간의 변형과 실제 사건을 모티브로 삼은 스토리, 열린 결말 등 다양한 서사 구조의 활용을 통해 드라마가 내포하고 있는 메시지를 이야기하고 있다. 이러한 점은 작품성과 흥행성 둘 다 놓치지 않았던 <시그널>의 성공은 통해 시청률을 핑계로 매너리즘에 빠진 한국의 드라마시장에 자극이 되었다고 판단된다. 향후 본 연구가 한국 드라마 산업에 있어서 새로운 드라마 제작을 위한 참고자료가 되기를 기대한다.; The goal of this study is to analyze the narrative structure of TV drama series Signal and the significance of narrative strategy it employs. The unique narrative structure of the series is given a particular emphasis in this study as what mostly made possible the commercial success and artistic achievement of the series; another factor behind the drama’s success would be its resonance with the collective subconscious of the public that seek justice in the face of social absurdities. While Signal is a detective drama that centers around a real-life cold case well known to the audience, its narrative structure also incorporates the motif of transcending time. The diversity and complexity of its ambitious narrative strategy, which pursues both the fantasy of time-warping and the reality of an actual crime case, set the series apart from traditional detective dramas. And the diverse array of narrative devices, such as warping space-time, a story from real life, and open-ended conclusion, convey the hidden message of the series. Such qualities of Signal, which secured both popularity and quality, also gave creative stimuli to Korean TV drama producers that have remained in the humdrum under the pretext of ratings. This study will hopefully serve as a helpful reference for Korea’s TV drama industry in creating new dramas in the future.
