- Abstract
- The power management and security of hundreds of smart devices is one of the challenging problems in the development of Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Frequent real-time communication requires optional implementation of appropriate technologies. The Message Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol, which is designed as an extremely lightweight messaging transport protocol, is widely used in Internet of Things (IoT). However, the simplicity of MQTT also causes various problems. In this paper, we focus on MQTT power consumption and MQTT security. First, we proposed a power-saving and secure MQTT system for IoT, which has a prolonged life time and transmits in a more secure way. An advanced alphabet-based Arithmetic Coding is designed to process IoT data. Moreover, Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption and inner security mechanism are combined in the proposed system to provide data security. Finally, the results indicate that the security is improved. Meanwhile, power consumption can be reduced because the proposed Arithmetic Coding has a better performance than traditional Arithmetic Coding in our system. While the mean end-to-end delay increases by 2ms, but it is acceptable.
