Abstract
With the development of scientific technique and the progress of the fourth industrial revolution, the importance of the adolescent period is highlighted for determining the right career course you want in the rapidly changing career environment. Adolescence is the period of job searching and designing for a stable adulthood, and it is important to understand the basic factors that can raise the career decision level. The high self - identity and social support of adolescents alleviate the stress they receive, and high self - efficacy is an important resource to help the healthy developmental stage for adolescents such as forming a positive value. Therefore, a more detailed and in-depth study of the relationship between these and career decision levels should be made. This study focuses on the mediator effect of self-efficacy and the influence of ego-identity, social support, and self-efficacy on career decision level. Also, this paper establishes the questions “Do these variables have a direct or indirect effect on career decision level?”and “What is its relative influence?”as research problems and verifies them empirically. This research was conducted on 435 students from Junior High School and Humanities High School in Uijeong-bu City, Gyeonggi Province from April 15, 2017 to April 30, 2017. Method of this study is an exploratory approch, so a theoretical examination was conducted through the literature investigation of domestic and foreign books, journals, dissertations, research reports and periodicals. Also, by deriving the main concepts and variables of the research, research models and hypotheses were established. In addition, as a technical approach, the frequency analysis was conducted to determine the distribution status of sociodemographic attributes for the survey subjects and the descriptive statistic was performed to analyze average value and standard deviation for each variable. Furthermore, a correlation analysis was performed to verify the statistical significance of correlations between variables. Lastly, based on the path model as an explanatory approach, structural equation modeling analysis was conducted to investigate the effect of a causal relationship between variables. First, according to the analysis result, ego identity did not directly affect career decision level, but it had a meaningful effect indirectly on career decision level (β=.212, p<.01) through mediation of self-efficacy. Second, social support did not directly affect career decision level, but it had a meaningful effect indirectly on career decision level (β=.105, p<.01) through mediation of self-efficacy. Third, self - efficacy was verified as a variable which had a positive and meaningful influence directly on career decision level (β=.380, p<.001). The results showed that the self - efficacy had a complete mediating effect on career decision level. Moreover, the relative influence directly or indirectly on career decision level was confirmed in the order of self-efficacy (β=.380), social support (β=.176), and self-identity (β=.103). This result suggests that when establishing career education policy, it is necessary to effectively utilize variables such as self - efficacy, social support, and self – identity by considering priorities.
