Abstract
The recent economic development in Algeria has caused a serious problem of income distribution and creating stable employment rate. To alleviate those inefficient outcomes of economic development and further elevate ‘sustainable economic development’ Algerian government launches a series of innovative policies relating the promotion of medium sized companies and expansion of labor law’s liability. Even though oil and chemical industry possess a hugh portion of economic sector as well as GDP, small sized company, associating under 10 employees or the asset of 20 billion DZD mostly provides job opportunity in labor market. Most of these small sized companies are structured through informal employment such as family based or self-employed with its handful helper. Unlike Western countries where informal employment is not applied under labor law, Algeria’s new labor law, launched in Labour Act of 2007 protects informal employment such as housekeeper, chauffeur under Employment Protection Clauses. Under this law, the penalty would be imposed if employer violates the limit on annual 1800 working hours of worker. Although Algerian government’s effort to promote the worker’s quality of life rather than simple economic development would be credited, the success of launching such a law still remains in question. However, their due process of applying labor law has to be considered in order to avoid discriminating manual workers in Korea.
