천연가스 수입과 외환보유액 사이의 상호관계: 한국의 시계열분석

Abstract

본 연구에서는 자료수집이 가능한 우리나라의 1986년부터 2010년까지 연간시계열자료로부터 천연가스수입과 외환보유액 사이의 단기동학관계를 분석하기 위하여 오차수정모형을 추정한 결과 외환보유액을 종속변수로 한 경우 통계적으로 유의한 음(-)의 값을 나타내고 있는데 이는 1년의 시차가 사용되어 질 때 공적분이 존재하지 않는다는 귀무가설은 기각됨을 의미하며 두 변수(천연가스 수입과 외환보유액) 사이에 단기균형뿐만 아니라 장기균형도 존재함을 시사한다. 또한 오차수정모형을 통한 상호관계를 검정한 결과, 한국에서의 천연가스수입과 외환보유액 사이에는 상호관계의 개연성이 존재함을 발견하였다. 연간시계열 자료를 사용하여 시계열모수를 추정한 결과, 천연가스수입에 대한 외환보유액의 효과는 유의한 양(+)의 값을 나타내고 있으며 역으로 외환보유액에 대한 천연가스수입의 효과는 유의한 양의 값을 나타내고 있다. 탄력성을 산출한 결과 천연가스 수입의 외환보유액 탄력성은 비탄력적으로 나타난 반면에, 외환보유액의 천연가스수입 탄력성은 탄력적으로 나타났는데 이는 천연가스수입이 외환보유액에 민감함을 의미한다. With the time series data from 1986 to 2010 this paper analyzes the inter-relationship between natural gas import per 1,000 population and per capita real foreign reserves taken as endogenous. The empirical results are consistent with the hypothesis that the inter-relationship exists; natural gas import affecting foreign reserves, and foreign reserves affecting natural gas import. An implication of this is that natural gas imports and foreign reserves may be one package in policy formulation. A negative and statistically significant error correction term in foreign reserves equation implies that the null hypothesis of no cointegration is rejected when one period lag is used. The existence of cointegration means that natural gas imports and foreign reserves can be targeted to bring about a desired long-run effect as well as short run effect on growth.
