미술 비전공자 중장년층의 장기적 미술 학습 경험에 대한 질적 사례 연구

Abstract

The need for adult art learning is increasing in Korea, where a social atmosphere that puts more emphasis on individual life than work and aging society. Motivation is important at the beginning of art learning in adulthood, although it's common to all learning. However, as important as the beginning is the factor that wants to continue learning. The researcher saw that there was a correlation between the long-term art learning of the middle-aged and the meaning of the experiences that come from that learning, and this study was started based on the fact that adult men who did not major art voluntarily continued to learn art for 10 years. As the study progressed, the study was expanded by selecting and including five additional middle-aged and long-term art learners. The study participants were interviewed several times, photographs of works were collected and analyzed, the motivation and effect of adult art learning were grasped through the results, so the recognition and meaning of adult art learning were studied. As a result of the analysis, the following discussion points were found. First, The first motivation of art learning was that it could not be aimed at art itself. Second, The study participants who started art learning had a reason to learn more than the learning motivation they had at first as they continued learning. Third, art learners have a desire to exist as independent artists beyond the learner's position. These discussion points were able to expect additional educational value of adult art learning·teaching and learning methods by finding previously known general factors in the motivation and continuation of art learning in middle-aged adults with non-art backgrounds, that is, yearning for art, and the fact that painting has been a hobby since childhood. Since art education in lifelong learning in Korea has been actively conducted mainly on the research of the elderly, the results and implications of this study will be able to suggest the direction in which art education should move forward as a part of lifelong learning in the future. However, in this study, the study participants were generally a social class with stable economic power. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct follow-up studies on the motivation and continuation of adult art learning for certain classes who have many restrictions on economic power or access to learning spaces compared to the study participants in this study. If these follow-up studies proceed, we can expand adult art learning to various classes of society and a wider category in the future, providing educational directions.|일보다도 개인의 삶을 더욱 중시하는 사회적 분위기와 고령화가 진행되는 우리나라에 성인 미술 학습의 필요성은 점점 높아져 가고 있다. 어느 학습이나 모두 공통적이겠지만 성인기 미술 학습의 시작에는 동기가 중요하다. 하지만 시작만큼이나 중요한 것은 학습을 지속하고자 하는 요인이다. 연구자는 중장년층의 장기적 미술 학습과 그 학습에서 오는 경험의 의미가 서로 상관성이 있다고 보았고, 미술을 비전공한 성인 남성이 10년간 자발적으로 미술 학습을 지속했다는 것에 착안하여 본 연구를 시작하게 되었다. 연구를 진행하면서 5명의 중장년층 장기적 미술 학습자를 추가 선정 및 포함하여 연구를 확장 진행하였다. 연구 참여자들을 수차례 면담하고 작품 사진을 수집 및 분석하여 그 결과를 통해 성인 미술 학습의 동기와 효과를 파악하여 성인 미술 학습 인식과 의미에 대하여 연구하였다. 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 논의점들을 찾을 수 있었다. 첫째, 미술 학습의 최초 동기가 단지 미술 자체에 목적을 두지 않을 수 있다는 것이었다. 둘째, 미술 학습을 시작한 연구 참여자들은 배움을 지속하면서 최초에 가졌던 학습 동기 외로 더 배워야 할 이유를 갖게 되었다는 점이다. 셋째, 미술 학습자들은 학습자 위치를 넘어서서 주체적인 예술가로서 존재하고 싶은 욕구를 가진다는 것이다. 이 논의점들은 비전공자 중장년층 미술 학습에서 미술 학습 동기와 지속에 있어 기존에 알려진 일반적 요인들, 즉 미술에 대한 동경, 그림 그리기가 어린 시절부터 취미였다는 사실 등 외로 여러 가지 알려지지 않은 요인을 찾아 성인층 미술 학습 교수·학습 방법의 교육적 가치를 추가로 기대할 수 있었다. 우리나라 평생 학습 내 미술 교육은 주로 노인층 연구를 위주로 활발하게 진행되어 왔기 때문에 본 연구 분석 결과와 시사점은 앞으로 평생 학습의 일환으로 미술 교육이 나아가야 할 방향을 제시할 수 있을 것이다. 다만 본 연구는 연구 참여자들이 대체적으로 경제력이 안정적인 사회적 계층이었다. 따라서 본 연구의 연구 참여자들과 비교하여 경제력이나 학습 공간 접근에 제한이 많은 특정 계층을 대상으로 성인 미술 학습의 동기와 지속에 대한, 후속 연구가 진행될 필요성이 있다. 이러한 후속 연구가 진행된다면 우리는 앞으로 성인 미술 학습을 사회 여러 계층과 더욱 넓은 범주로 확대할 수 있는데 교육적 방향성을 제공할 수 있을 것이다.
