Abstract
Ethereum’s gas price influences the priority of transactions, but due to de- centralization, its appropriate prediction by individuals is challenging, often leading to overpayment. This issue is likened to the Prisoner’s Dilemma. This paper aims to restructure Ethereum’s transaction processing method to resolve this dilemma. Initially, we examine Ethereum’s current transaction mechanism and its associated Prisoner’s Dilemma and centralization issues. We analyze how the London Hard Fork and the EIP-1559 update have impacted these prob- lems. We propose the Economic Tx Fee System as a cost-effective transaction approach and explore methods to implement a fair and efficient transaction pro- cessing system that can provide more equal opportunities. Furthermore, we ex- periment and evaluate the transaction selection algorithm of the proposed Eco- nomic Tx Fee System using real blockchain data. The paper discusses how this new system can enhance Ethereum network’s accessibility, efficiency, fairness, and equality among participants. Through this research, we anticipate spark- ing significant discussions on the future development directions of blockchain networks like Ethereum.
