글로벌 반도체 장비 산업에서 프로젝트 관리자 역량이 프로젝트 성과에 미치는 영향

Abstract

The semiconductor industry has recently attracted attention with the appearance of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Under the recent influence of COVID-19, the demand for semiconductor has been on the explosive increase and the semiconductor equipment industry has steadily been growing. The market share of the global semiconductor equipment businesses has approached 80% and the semiconductor equipment industry in South Korea also attracts global companies' positive investment. Global semiconductor equipment project managers need to achieve their goal through comprehensive communication and analysis with those interested, who are complicatedly intertwined with one another, in an effort to implement a project successfully. To do this, it is vital that they have improved competencies as a project manager. The purpose of this study was to define the effects of project managers' leadership competencies on project management performance and the details of personal competency considered important to project managers in pursuit of a successful project in the global semiconductor equipment industry. For this purpose, literature and prior research were reviewed and empirical research was conducted through a survey in those workers who had performed or participated in a project at global semiconductor equipment businesses. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, managerial skills and creative skills among the sub-factors for project managers' leadership competencies positively affected project management performance. In terms of management ability, previous studies have indicated that it has a positive (+) influence on both construction projects and IT projects. Regarding creative ability, it has also been found to have a significant positive (+) impact in cultural industry projects. This suggests that the leadership competencies considered more important for project managers vary across different industries. On the basis of these results, performing project management with weight added to managerial and creative skills in project managers' leadership specializing in global semiconductor equipment projects in addition to identification of the factors for details and the resultant education and training and self-development in the relatively poor areas of competencies for managers is expected to obtain more effective and efficient project performance. |최근 반도체 산업은 제4차 산업혁명의 출현과 함께 관심을 받고 있다. 아울러 최근 코로나19 영향으로 반도체 수요의 폭발적인 수요와 함께 반도체 장비 산업의 성장도 꾸준하게 성장하는 추세이다. 글로벌 반도체 장비 업체들의 시장 점유율은 80%에 육박하고 있으며 한국에서의 반도체 장비 산업 역시 글로벌 기업들의 투자가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 글로벌 반도체 장비 프로젝트 관리자는 성공적인 프로젝트를 수행하기 위해 복잡하게 얽혀 있는 이해관계자들과의 총괄적인 소통과 분석을 통해 목적을 이루어야 한다. 이를 위해 프로젝트 관리자로서의 역량 향상이 중요하다. 본 연구의 목적은 글로벌 반도체 장비 산업에서 프로젝트의 성공을 위해 프로젝트 관리자의 리더십 역량이 프로젝트 관리 성과에 미치는 영향을 미치는지에 대해 연구하였다 . 이를 위해 문헌조사와 선행연구 조사를 하였고, 글로벌 반도체 장비 업체에서 프로젝트를 수행했거나 참여했던 경험이 있는 종사자들을 대상으로 설문 조사를 통해 실증연구를 수행하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같이 요약할 수 있다. 프로젝트 관리자 리더십 역량의 하위 요인인 관리 능력과 창의적 능력이 프로젝트 관리 성과에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 관리 능력의 경우, 선행 연구에서 건설 프로젝트와 IT 프로젝트에서도 동일하게 정(+)의 영향을 미친다고 하였다. 창의적 능력의 경우, 문화산업 프로젝트에서도 유사하게 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미친다고 하였다. 이는 각 산업별로 프로젝트 관리자에게 더 중요시되는 리더십 역량이 다양하다는 점을 의미한다. 본 연구결과를 토대로 프로젝트 성공을 위해 글로벌 반도체 장비 프로젝트에 특화된 프로젝트 관리자 리더십의 관리 능력, 창의적 능력에 가중치를 두고, 세부 요소들의 요인을 확인하여 상대적으로 부족한 관리자의 역량 부분에 교육훈련과 자기개발을 통해 프로젝트 관리를 수행한다면 더욱 효과적이고 효율적인 프로젝트 성과를 얻을 수 있을 것이다.
