도시미관에 있어서의 서울시 도시벽화 색채에 관한 연구

Abstract

서울시는 최근 몇 년 전부터 도시미관의 중요성을 인지하면서 많은 변화의 움직임을 보이고 있다. 특히 도시미관의 개선과 도시의 정체성을 확립하는데 도시벽화가 활용되는 사례가 늘고 있다. 하지만 주변지역이미지의 색채를 고려하지 않은 도시벽화는 오히려 주변지역이미지를 훼손할 수 있다. 본 연구는 도시미관에 있어서 도시벽화 색채에 관한 연구로서, 서울시에 설치된 도시벽화의 색채와 그 주변지역이미지 색채와의 조화여부를 알아보고 보다 나은 도시벽화 설치에 도움이 되고자 하는데 목적이 있다. 도시벽화와 도시미관의 개념 및 역할을 알아보고 도시미관에 있어서 도시벽화와 색채와의 관계와 중요성을 알아보았으며, 서울시와 국외 관광 인기지역의 도시벽화 사례를 선정하여 I.R.I색채연구소에서 개발한 I.R.I 색채이미지 스케일 분석 툴을 통하여 도시벽화에 사용된 색채와 그 주변지역이미지 색채와의 조화여부를 분석하였다. 분석결과, I.R.I 색채이미지 스케일에서 나타난 국외 사례에서 도시벽화 색채와 주변지역 색채는 유사한 색채이미지가 사용되어 주변지역이미지와 조화를 이루고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 그에 반해, 서울시 각 지역의 도시벽화 색채와 주변지역 색채는 대부분 상반된 색채이미지를 사용하고 있어 주변지역이미지의 색채와 조화를 이루지 못하고 있는 실정임을 알 수 있었다. 상반된 색채의 사용으로 인해 오히려 그 지역이미지에 방해가 되는 시각적요소로 작용되고 있다고 할 수 있다. 보다 나은 도시벽화 설치를 위해 주변지역이미지의 색채를 고려한 색채를 사용하여 도시벽화와 서로 조화가 이루어지도록 해야 하며 이를 통해 그 지역의 미관을 개선하고 도시미관을 보다 아름답고 쾌적하게 만들어야 할 것이다.;Recently Seoul City landscape design has shown great changes and improvements, but city mural painting is still in lack of use. In this study, the harmony and balance of city image and city mural painting images are studied to find out current situation of city mural painting use in Seoul City. Five areas in Seoul with relatively higher use of city mural painting, and two areas in major cities of each country including USA, France, and Japan were selected to find out whether the images matched between the city landscape and the colors and shapes of city mural paintings. Compared to other countries, the city landscape image and city mural paintings of Seoul were not so harmonious. City mural painting is one of the essential factors in establishing city images in terms of city landscape, but the wrong use of it can hurt the city image. Therefore, use of city mural painting needs to be planned and designed well, systematically.
