As competition in the global automobile industry has become fiercer, it is desperately required for automotive seats to have high-function and high-durability, to be differentiated in their design, and to be cost-saving. This study, accordingly, aimed to provide basic data for the luxury strategy of automotive interior and the development of automotive seats with the emotion and personality of auto brands by analyzing the cases of automotive seats of domestic and foreign auto brands. The scope of study includes Hyundai Auto and Kia Auto as domestic brands and BMW of Germany and Toyota of Japan as foreign brands, all of which are firms falling into the top 100 brand value of Interbrand in 2012. The selected brands were analyzed based on the literature, news and auto information websites. The findings are as follows: First, the materials of automotive seat cover are dominated by leather. It was also found that luxury models used natural leather. In fabric automotive seats, polyester fiber was used, while flat fabric with dobby and jacquard, moquette pile fabric, and double raschel knitting were used for knitting structure. In addition, it had the effect of lowering unit cost or providing environment-friendly image. Second, the color preference of seat cover was in the descending order of black, beige, white, brown and gray in domestic brands, while grey, black, red and brown in BMW brand, and grey, ivory, beige and black in Toyota brand. Lastly, the pattern of automotive seat cover was largely seen in a small geometry, free-from curve and wave textile pattern. In particular, leather seat introduced a unique and sophisticated design with the application of sawing line, especially, high light color combination and pipping line in BMW. It is expected that the presented development direction of automotive seat cover, based on the analysis above, will be used as basic data to develop the design of automotive fiber interiors in the auto industry and academia at both home and abroad.-
