대중음악이 스트리트 스타일의 대중화에 미친 영향에 관한 연구Ⅰ -힙합 음악과 뮤지션 패션을 중심으로-

Abstract

본 연구는 힙합 발생지인 미국을 중심으로 힙합 뮤지션의 스타일을 분석한다. 이는 현대 패션에서 하위문화였던 스트리트 스타일이 주류 패션으로 흡수되어발전 확대된 과정을 보여주는 사례가 된다. 그리하여다양한 캐주얼 디자인 스타일을 이론적으로 재정리하여 한국 캐주얼 브랜드들의 대외 수출 경쟁력 강화에일조하고자 함이 본 연구의 목적이다. 연구범위는 힙합이 시작되었던 1970년대부터 현재까지 미국 힙합뮤지션들의 패션스타일이며 힙합과 패션에 관한 단행본, 전문 인터넷 사이트, 뮤직비디오, 음악 앨범 자켓이미지 등을 참고 자료로 활용하였다.

힙합 스타일의 시작은 1970년대 미국 할렘가 청소년들의 은어와 속어로 구성된 랩(rap)과 그들의 헐렁한 바지, 오버 사이즈의 셔츠부터였다. 즉, 흑인들의자유롭고 솔직한 항변 문화였고 이러한 특성이 반항과 일탈을 꿈꾸는 청소년들에게 크게 어필되어 21세기 대중음악에서 중요한 장르로 정착되었다. 미국의 힙합 뮤지션은 1980년대 올드 스쿨의 대표적인 힙합 뮤지션 런 디엠씨(Run DMC)와 뉴 스쿨의대표적인 힙합 뮤지션 엠시 해머(MC Hammer)가 있다. 올드 스쿨 뮤지션들은 아디다스(Adidas) 스포츠웨어에 특별한 애정을 갖고 즐겨 착용하여 유행시켰으며 금 액세서리를 덧붙여 착용하였다. 뉴 스쿨 뮤지션들은 은 헐렁하게 큰 자메이카풍의 원색 셔츠와 팬츠를 착용하였고, 금으로 된 쇠사슬이나 액세서리를많이 사용하였다. 이들 중 엠시 해머는 통이 넓으나바지 부리로 갈수록 통이 좁아지는 배기 팬츠(baggypants)를 유행 시켰다.

990년대 미국 힙합 음악은 이스트 코스트(eastcoast)와 웨스트 코스트(west coast)로 나눌 수 있다.

이스트 코스트의 퍼프 대디(Puff Daddy) 다양한 컬러의 오버 사이즈 스포츠 점퍼, 스니커즈에 두건을 머리에 쓰고 큐빅이 박힌 빅 펜던트를 목에 걸어 활동성을 강조 하였지만 최근들어 고급스러운 무채색계열의슈트, 선글라스, 중절모, 화려한 주얼리로 과시적인 스타일을 보여주고 있다. 웨스트 코스트의 스눕독(Snoop Doggy)은 전형적인 흑인 헤어스타일인 콘로우와 갱스터 이미지를 보여주었다. 배기팬츠와 빅 사이즈 티셔츠, 문신과 피어싱 등으로 요약 할 수 있다.

2000년대 들어와서는 약간 타이트한 의상과 해골장식, 후드 티, 빈티지 스타일의 반팔 셔츠, 타이트한 데님 스타일이 나타나면서 간소한 스타일을 보여주고있다. 블랙 아이드 피스(The Black Eyed Pease)의 윌아이엠(Will. I. Am)이 대표적인 예이다. 넬리(Nelly)도 과거 티셔츠를 레이어드 해 입거나 오버사이즈 팬츠, 후드 티셔츠, 워커 등으로 화려하고 사치스러운쥬얼리를 착용했으나 최근의 시크해진 힙합스타일로바뀐 것을 알 수 있다.

이상에서 현재 젊은이들의 주류 패션인 힙합패션이흑인 청소년 하위문화에서 시작된 힙합음악과 같이성장해 왔음을 알 수 있었다. 본격적으로 등정한 1980년대만 해도 일부 뮤지션들과 청소년들의 스타일이었던 것이 힙합음악이 대중음악으로 깊게 뿌리내리면서패션스타일도 다양해지면서 1990년대 이후의 캐주얼스타일의 확대에 가장 크게 영향 미쳤음을 고찰할 수 있었다.;This study analyzes of hip-hop musician`s fashionstyle around the United States which is the place oforigin of hip-hop music. This case is showing theprocess of the street style as s sub-culture has beenabsorbed into mainstream fashion street style fashionand enlarged. The aim of this study is to support Koreancasual brand`s export competitiveness in export byreorganizing the variety of design style theoretically. The range of the study is a hip-hop musicians fashionstyle of United States from the 1970s to the present, and books on hip-hop and fashion, professional internetsites, music videos and music album jacket images wasused as the reference material. The beginning of a hip-hop was from the start ofthe 1970s Harlem youth of the United States consistingof jargon and slang of rap, and their baggy pants, oversized shirts. In other words, characteristic ofhip-hop was a free and frank plea of the Negro cultureand it was settled as a genre since it had been appealedto youths who were dreaming of rebellious and deviant. Representative American hip hop musicians of the1980s are Run DMC as a old school hip-hop musicianand MC Hammer as a New School hip-hop musician. Old school musicians were having a special affectionfor wearing sports wear of Adidas and gold accessories. New School musicians were the big Jamaican-styleprimaries, shirts and pants, baggy wear, a lot of goldchains or accessories were used. MC Hammer waswearing barrel pants hem goes through narrow towardthe beak. In the 1990s, American hip hop music can bedivided into the East Coast and West Coast. Puff Daddyfrom East Coast was wearing oversized sports jumperin variety of colors, sneakers, hood and encrusted bigcubic pendant to emphasizes the activity, but in recentyears he is showing achromatic series of luxurioussuits, sunglasses, and colorful jewelry to flaunt hisstyle. West Coast Snoop Dogg showed Conrow andgangsta image which is typical black man`s hair style. Baggy pants and oversized T-shirts, tattoos andpiercing can be summarized. The 2000s style was getting simplified with a littletight costumes and skeleton decorations, hoodies, vintage style short sleeve shirt and tight denim. Will. I. Am from Black Eyed Pease is a typical case. Nellywas wearing a layered T-shirt, oversized pants, hoodies, walker and extravagant jewelry in the past buthe has been changed to a chic hip-hop style. As a shown above, hip-hop fashion as amainstream of young people has been developed withhip-hop music which was started from culture of theblack youth. Hip-hop music just for some teens andmusician has been settled as a popular music, andfashion style has been various in the 1980`s. It isconsidered as a huge impact on casual fashion style of1990`s.
