‘일본교’와 섹슈얼리티: 미시마 유키오·천황제·에로티시즘

Abstract

본고의 모티브는 1970년에 일본열도에서 일어난 두 가지 사건에의 응시로부터 시작되었다. 하나는 야인적 지식인 야마모토 시치헤이(=이자야 벤다산)의 천재적 발명품이라 할 만한 ‘일본교’ 개념의 등장이고, 다른 하나는 광인적 작가 미시마 유키오의 할복 사건이다. 왜 ‘일본종교’가 아니고 ‘일본교’인가? 일본교는 어떤 종교인가? 일본교와 ‘문화’의 관계는? 미시마의 할복은 과연 납득 불가능한 광태에 불과한 것일까? 그가 일본교도였는지 아닌지를 묻는 물음의 의미는 무엇인가? 모노노아와레, 에로티시즘, 천황제,테러, 할복 등이 미시마 안에서 ‘미’(美)라는 말 한마디로 회수되고 있음을 어떻게 이해하면 좋을까? 이런 의문부호가 따라다니는 본고의 목적은 일본교라는 개념을 이른바 ‘일본 문화론’ 및 ‘시민종교’와 대비시켜 소개하면서, ‘종교와 섹슈얼리티’라는 주제를 일본이라는 미학적인(혹은 일본교적인) 모노노아와레 공동체 혹은 ‘기호의 제국’에 투영시키는 데에 있다. 이런 목적과 관련하여 본고는 구체적으로 미시마 유키오의 할복사건 및 《우국》과 《영령의 소리》 등의 문학작품과 〈문화방위론〉을 중심으로 죽음과 미와 에로티시즘의삼위일체에 입각한 천황제 미학에 대해 검토하면서, 그것을 일본교의 코드로서 파악하고자 한다.;The motif of this paper begins with the gaze on two Japan-like occurrences in 1970. One is the appearance of the concept “Nihonkyo”(日本敎), which can be regarded as an outstanding invention made by Yamamoto Shichihei(山本七平). The other is the ritual disembowelment committed by Mishima Yukio(三島由紀夫). Why is not “Japanese Religion” but “Nihonkyo”? What kind of religion is “Nihonkyo”? How can we recognize the relationship between “Nihonkyo” and culture? Was his self-diembowelment merely an insanity impossible to understand indeed? What does it mean to ask if he was a believer in Nihonkyo or not? What is the real meaning of “beauty” that encompasses all the main concerns of Mishma, such as Monono-aware, Eroticism, Emperor System, Terrorism, Disembowelment, and so forth? The purpose of this paper is to examine the theme “religion and sexuality” in the light of the notion “Japan as an aesthetical community of Monono-aware and/ or an empire of signs”, while firstly introducing the notion “Nihonkyo” in comparison with so-called “Nihonjinron”(日本人論) as well as “civil religion”. Thereby, this paper will analyze the aesthetics of Emperor System based on the trinity of “Death”, “Beauty”, and “Eroticism”, especially paying attention to the Mishima Case, his works such as Patriotism(《憂國》) and Voices of the Heroic Dead(《英靈の聲》), and his essay on the close relationship between Japanese culture and Emperor(〈文化防衛論〉) in association with “Nihonkyo”.
