Roughly summed up, archetypal criticism standing on the intimate relationship between literature and tradition, emphasize the literature is an organic wholeness that the works should be investigated in the whole literature system and the literature tradition. Archetypal criticism which is represented by Carl Gustav Jung(1961-1875) and Northrop Frye(1912-1991) has an epoch-making meaning in the history of western literary criticism. And soon after its introduction to china in the early eighties, there are some theoretical study on archetypal criticism itself, but not so much practical analyses of classical chinese poetry using methods of archetypal criticism. This paper thus is intended to fill the gap of practical criticism. On studying complex prototype and pattern prototype of chinese classical poetry in Chen ZiAng's Ganyu poems is rather abrasive but addressable attempt. There are totally four parts in this paper. 1. Archetype of Scolar-official's ambivalent complex 2. Archetype of Oneness of heaven and the human complex 3. Archetype of Revere ancient complex 4. Archetype of Tragedy pattern These archetype is a carrier to convey original psychological experience which is common to chinese and chinese collective unconsciousness. These archetype will be activated through the same psychological mechanism when Chen ZiAng facing the cognate circumstances with his ancestor and thus having similar emotional responses and experiences. That is not a thorough images which is directly put across but a repetition of same or similar psychological phenomena. And also is a psychological system which is implicated in the basic level of chinese culture.
