언어유희로 읽는 주신구라(忠臣蔵)

Abstract

『가나데혼주신구라』를 가부키로 감상하는 한편 이 원전 텍스트를 바탕으로 한 다른 방식의 구성이 시도되었다. 이는 가부키와는 다른 매력으로 끊임없이 대중과의 소통을 유도해내면서 대중적인 관심을 이어나갔다.《가나데혼주신구라》를 그림과 함께 이야기를 즐길 수 있도록 가부키 작품의 대사를 본문으로 만들어 그림과 함께 배치하거나 간단한 스토리를 앞부분에 삽입시켜 문장 없이도 그림만으로 이야기를 감상할 수 있도록 구성된 다양한 문학 작품이 그것이다. 그림이라는 다른 표현 수단 보다 이야기성이 풍부한 그림이라는 시각 어휘를 활용하여 이야기가 가지고 있는 이미지를 회화화한 것이다. 극적 흥미를 유발시키는 대표적인 장면을 그림으로 표현하고 이 그림 주위에 줄거리를 기재하는 방식을 통해 회화가 갖고 있는 시각적 효과를 강조한 것이다. 삽화는 각 문장 속에서 장면이 지닌 시각적 요소를 읽어내고 이것을 그림으로 표현한 것이다. 이것은 단순히 그림이 이야기의 보조적 설명 수단이 아니라 그림이라는 형태로 이야기를 재현해내는 하나의 독립된 이야기의 전달 매체로 작용하였음을 의미한다.;While the audience could appreciate "Kanadehon Chushingura" in the form of Kabuki, a new method of composition was tried based on this original text. With fascination different from Kabuki, it attracted the attention of the public while inducing constant communication with the public. This is about a variety of literary works which place the lines of Kabuki works in the form of a body text accompanied by illustrations to provide pleasure of enjoying the story of "Kanadehon Chushingura" with drawings, and insert a brief story in the front part to allow the readers to appreciate the story only with drawings. By making use of visual vocabulary of drawings rich in narrative qualities rather than other means of expression, it pictorialized the image of the story. By expressing some representative scenes arousing the dramatic interests and summarizing the synopsis around the drawings, it puts emphasis on visual effects of paintings. This means that illustration played a role as a means of communication or delivery of an independent story representing a story in the form of drawing and not as an ancillary means of explanation of the story.
