구석기 전시의 현황과 개선 방안 연구 - 전라지역의 국립 및 주요 대학 박물관을 중심으로 -

Abstract

전라지역의 국립 및 주요 대학 박물관의 구석기 전시 현황을 살펴보고 그 개선 방안을 제시하였다. 구석기 전시의 현황을 보면, 설립 주체 및 조사 활동에 따라 각 기관별로 소장 유물의 수량과 수준에서 큰 차이가 있다. 전시 유물은 석기 제작기법을 보여주는 석기나 완성된 도구에 집중되어 있는데, 독립형 진열장 내에 주로 수평적으로 배치되어 있고 한 방향 관람만이 가능하다. 일부 개별 유물은 바로 놓기가 잘못된 경우가 보인다. 전시 보조물은 주로 텍스트와 그래픽 패널에 의존하여 구석기시대의 설명과 석기 제작방법을 설명하고 있는데, 기관별로 그 내용의 양과 시인성에서 차이가 나타난다. 한편 일부 박물관에서는 석기 외의 유물 일부와 실험고고학을 통한 석기 생산물 등을 전시하고 있으며, 태블릿 등을 이용한 영상물을 제공하고 있다. 구석기 전시의 개선 방안은 진열장, 전시 유물, 전시 보조물, 기타로 구분하여 다루었다. 진열장은 유물을 여러 방향에서 관찰하고 관람객 사이의 거리를 좁하기 위한 새로운 진열장이 요구되며, 전시 유물은 석기 외의 유물을 병행 전시하여 구석기시대에 대한 인식의 틀을 넓히고, 유물의 진열은 수직적 유물 전시와 함께 석기에 대한 이해를 바탕으로 한 개별 유물의 바로 놓기를 강조하였다. 전시 보조물은 기존의 설명 패널을 보완하되 영상물이나 증강현실(AR) 등과 결합된 동적 패널의 도입이 필요하다. 마지막으로 기타에서는 전시 외 박물관 내·외에 체험 공간의 확보를 통한 구석기 전시와의 연계 중요성을 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the current status of the Paleolithic exhibitions in national and major university museums in the Jeolla region and to suggest improvement plans. Looking at the current status of the Paleolithic exhibitions, there is a big difference in the quantity and quality of artifacts in collections between institutions depending on the establishment entity and archaeological survey. Exhibitions concentrate on stone tools, showing the technique of making stone tools, or finished tools. The exhibits are mainly arranged horizontally in stand-alone display cases and can only be viewed in one direction. Some artifacts were incorrectly placed. Exhibition aids are usually text and graphic panels describing the Paleolithic era and how to make stoneware, but there are differences in the quantity and design of the contents between institutions. Notably, however, some museums showcase, albeit handful, artifacts other than stoneware, or stone products reproduced through experimental archaeology, and play video materials on tablet. The improvement plan for the Paleolithic exhibitions covers four aspects: showroom, artifact displays, exhibition aids and others. In case of display cases, new display cases are required to allow visitors to observe artifacts from various directions and narrow the distance between visitors. The exhibition artifacts part underscores that artifacts other than stone tools should be displayed together to help visitors have broader understanding of the Paleolithic, vertical displays be increased and individual artifacts be placed in a correct manner based on understanding of stone tools. In case of exhibition aids, dynamic panels combined with videos or augmented reality are needed which can complement the existing description panels. Finally, the others part presents a plan to link the Paleolithic exhibitions to experience zones in and outside museums other than exhibition spaces.
