How Does Digitalization Affect Foreign Investment: Evidence from China

Abstract

Digitalization is becoming an increasing concern for enterprises. Based on the data of Chinese listed companies from 2008 to 2019, this paper collects the keywords of "digital technology application" in the annual reports of enterprises with the help of crawler technology, innovatively portrays the intensity of enterprise digitalization, and empirically examines the impact of digitalization on enterprises' overseas investment decisions. The study finds that digitalization significantly facilitates the OFDI (outward foreign direct investment) decisions of listed companies. The paper also finds that the overseas background of executives and the nature of corporate ownership have moderating effects on the relationship between enterprises' digitalization and OFDI decisions. The moderating effect remains significant by replacing variables and considering external policy shocks.|디지털화가 기업의 관심사로 떠오르고 있다.본문은 2008-2019년 중국 상장 회사 데이터를 기반으로 파이선 기술을 이용하여 기업 연보에서 "디지털화 기술 응용" 키워드를 수집하고, 기업의 디지털화 강도를 혁신적으로 부각하며, 기업의 해외 투자 의 사결정에 영향을 미치는 메커니즘을 실증적으로 검증한다.연구 결과 디지털화가 상장사의 해외직접투자(OFDI) 결정를 크게 촉진시켰다는 것을 발견했다.또 정책적 요인이 기업의 디지털화와 OFDI 의사결정 사이의 관계를 조절 작용 있음을 발견했다. 변수를 치환함으로써 조정 작용은 여전히 현저하다.
