오페라 《보체크》를 통해 본 베르크의 드라마 『보이체크』 독해: 마리의 다양한 관계적 정체성을 중심으로

Abstract

뷔히너의 드라마 『보이체크』는 19세기 초 독일 최초로 하층민을 주인공으로 내세운 드라마로 열린 형식을 띄고 있다. 20세기 초 제2빈악파의 주요 인물인 베르크의 독해를 통해 오페라 《보체크》로 재탄생하게 된다. 본 논문은 무조음악어법으로 쓰인 오페라 《보체크》를 슈말펠트가 집합이론을 이용하여 연구한 음악분석을 통해 베르크가 뷔히너 드라마 『보이체크』를 어떻게 독해하였는지를 살펴보는 것이다. 집합이론을 이용한 음악분석결과가 의미하는 바는 지금까지 보체크를 중심으로 마리를 포함한 모든 등장인물을 주변인으로 간주하였던 관점의 전복을 요한다. 베르크는 보체크와 마리를 제외한 다른 인물들을 근대적 세상을 의미하는 구조물로 보았고, 오페라에서 실존하는 인물은 보체크와 마리로 이들을 갈등을 중심으로 드라마를 읽었다. 보체크와 마리는 각기 다른 이유로 근대적 구조에 맞지 않는 탈근대적 인물이라 할 수 있으며, 집합으로 보이는 이들의 정체성의 차이가 드라마의 비극이라 할 수 있다.| Büchner's drama Woyzeck is the first modern German drama in the early 19th century, featuring the lower classes as the main characters. At the beginning of the 20th century, Alban Berg, a major figure in the Second Vienna School, recreated it as an opera Wozzeck. This paper examines how Berg read the Büchner’s drama Woyzeck through the results of Schmalfeldt’s analyzing the opera Wozzeck, which was written in atonal musical language, using the set theory. What the results of music analysis using set theory means that it requires the overthrow of the perspective that has considered all the characters including Marie, centering on Wozzeck as peripherals. Berg viewed the characters other than Wozzeck and Marie as structures that signified the modern world, and the only real and alive characters in the opera were Wozzeck and Marie, and read the drama focusing on their conflict. Wozzeck and Marie are post-modern characters who do not fit into the modern structure for different reasons, and the difference in their identities as a set class is a tragedy of the drama.
