상담의 전문직 정체성에 대한 대학 교원의 인식

Abstract

본 연구에서는 상담의 전문직 정체성에 대한 상담 전공 대학 교원들의 인식을 탐색하였다. 이를위해 상담 전공 박사학위와 상담 관련 전문가 자격증을 소지하면서 최소 5년 이상의 교육 경력이있는 8명의 중견급 대학 교원들을 대상으로 일대일 인터뷰를 진행하였고, 합의적 질적 연구 방법을 사용하여 자료를 분석하였다. 연구결과, 참여자들은 인접 조력분야와 구별되는 상담의 전문성은 인간에 대한 다각적 이해 및 통합 능력, 내담자와의 신뢰로운 협력관계 형성 능력, 상담과정에대한 임상적 이해력 및 수행력에 있다고 믿고 있었다. 또한 그들은 상담이 치료나 성장을 필요로하는 모든 대상에게 효과적일 수 있으며, 특히 예방과 성장 중심의 개입이 필요한 아동 및 청소년에게 가장 적합한 전문적 서비스일 수 있음을 강조하였다. 참여자들은 상담의 전문성을 제고하기위해서는 상담자 훈련 과정에서 이론적 지식과 실무 역량을 강화하고 상담 윤리 역량을 강화하는것이 필요하다고 보았다. 본 연구의 결과는 상담자 교육 모델의 기초 자료로 사용될 수 있으며,정체성 혼란을 겪는 상담 수련생들에게 가이드를 제공해 줄 것으로 기대된다. 나아가, 상담의 전문직 정체성 관련 연구가 아직 초기 단계에 있는 실정을 감안할 때, 본 연구가 대규모의 상담자 표본을 대상으로 한 향후의 실증 연구를 촉진할 것으로 예상된다. This study qualitatively examined perceptions of university professors in counseling programs on the professional identity of counseling. Eight professors, who held a doctoral degree and an advanced-level certification in counseling and also had a minimum of five years of teaching experience, were individually interviewed and data were analyzed using the consensual qualitative research method. Participants believed that expertise in counseling, distinct from adjacent helping professions, includes the ability to view a human being from diverse and integrated viewpoints, theability to form a reliable cooperative relationship with a client, and clinical knowledge and skills to perform counseling. They also claimed that professional counseling could work for all those who need either recovery or mental growth and be most beneficial for children and adolescents requiring a preventive and developmental approach. The participants suggested counselor training strength entrainees’ theoretical understanding and practical skills and ethical sensitivity to enhance the professionalism of counseling. Findings from this study could serve as a basis for establishing a counselor education model and provide a guide for counselors-in-training who struggle with identity confusion. Furthermore, given that research on the professional identity of counseling is still in its infancy, this study might stimulate future empirical studies with a larger and more representative counselor sample.
