- Abstract
상용화 과정에서도 효과를 극대화하기 위한 많은 연구 개발 활동이 필요하다.|Among textile products, new textures are often expressed by
changing the properties of raw materials. One of the methods is
mercerization, a method of modifying cellulose fibers with sodium
hydroxide. Mercerization was named after a British chemist, Sir John
Mercer. It is a modified processing method of cotton fibers that has
been researched, developed, and commercialized after realizing that
when cotton is treated with alkali, swelling and shrinkage occurs,
and dyeability is improved. The characteristics of this processing
method are that the physical properties of the cotton fibers and
dyeability are improved, and a luxurious gloss is expressed. However,
due to the usage of sodium hydroxide as a medium for reforming,
maintaining quality stability and wastewater being generated became a
problem. Among the methods of reforming cellulose fibers, a method
using ammonia that can be reused by recovering the used gas has been
researched and developed, and has entered the commercialization stage
worldwide.
In this study, commercial facilities were used with cotton and
rayon materials, which represent cellulose fibers, to observe changes
in crystal structure, basic physical properties, color strength,
surface and cross-sections of fiber. Hence, I expect to observe the
state of change of cellulose fibers with liquid ammonia during the
commercialization process.
Liquid ammonia treatment also caused chemical changes like sodium
hydroxide treatment, resulting in changes in physical properties and
structure. In the changes of physical properties, the strength and
elongation were increased compared to the untreated sample, and in
the change of structure, the crystal structure appeared as a mixed
form instead of a distinct structure. For such phenomenon, it is
predicted that the dyeing and finishing conditions that were held
after liquid ammonia treatment caused a reversible reaction,
resulting the mixed form structure. As for the observation of the
mechanical properties, it was observed that the liquid
ammonia-treated sample had better comfort, fit and feeling compared
to the untreated and mercer-processed samples. A more flexible, soft,
and non-excessive surface gloss is a characteristic of liquid
ammonia-treated fabrics.
