한국 남성 안무가 작품에 내재된 미적 특성 연구

Abstract

This study examines the aspects of the works of male choreographers of modern Korean dance, through which it aims to explore the aesthetic characteristics of each choreographer's main work. To this end, James Jeon and Ahn Sung-soo were selected from the male choreographers of modern dance in Korea, and the aesthetic characteristics inherent in the work were analyzed by analyzing "She, Giselle" and "The Festival Music-Afterimage of the Roses." The results of this study are as follows. First, the tendency of Korean male choreographers to create works was found to have something in common that new attempts were endless. James Jeon moved away from the elegance of classical ballet and created a delightful, funny, dynamic, and narrative-based work. As a result, he focused on making ballet easier for audiences to understand and access. Ahn Sung-soo created various forms of works through modernization of Korean dance, fusion with ballet, separation, combination, and reconstruction of each genre, which stood away from the genre of modern dance. Second, this study evaluated the aesthetic characteristics of Korean male choreographers by dividing them into movement, rhythm, body, and spatial beauty. It was analyzed that the beauty of movement in the works of James Jeon showed various lines of movement, and generally gave a feeling of elegance and beauty. Also, he expressed rhythmic beauty that emphasized the main character's narrative and emotions, and straight arms and legs movements. Thus, he emphasized the physical beauty of the body, which expresses the straight and strength of the body line, and the vastness of the space, such as making greater use of the stage space and forming a group dance compared to others. The beauty, which is expressed in Ahn Seong-su's work, is also depicted in a straight line and a curved form of traditional dance. Therefore, he expressed the beauty of his movements by combining the movements of modern and Korean dancers. Since he used only about 10 traditional Korean traditional music instruments, he showed the rhythm of Korean traditional music, which was different from the rhythms of other modern dances. As a result, he emphasized the beauty of the body by running or stretching dancers' arms straight above, next to, and down, and the beauty of space through the effect of expanding and shrinking the space within a designated area. This study confirms that the works of male choreographers showed different aesthetic characteristics of dance according to traits, individuality, and trends in the dance world. It also reveals that the two choreographers reflected the aesthetic properties of dance based on their choreography philosophy.|본 연구에서는 한국 남성안무가의 작품 양상을 고찰하고, 각 안무가의 주요 작품의 미적 특성을 탐구하는 것에 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 한국 현대춤 남성안무가 중 제임스전과 안성수를 선정하였고, 두 안무가의 작품 중 <She, 지젤>과 <제전악-장미의 잔상>을 분석하여 작품에 내재된 미적 특성을 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 다음과 같다. 첫째, 한국 남성안무가의 작품 창작 경향은 새로운 시도라는 공통점을 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 제임스전은 고전 발레의 우아함에서 벗어나 유쾌하고 재미있으며 역동적이면서도 서사를 기반으로 하는 작품을 창작하여 관객들이 발레를 쉽게 이해하고 접근할 수 있도록 하는데 중점을 두었고, 안성수는 현대무용이라는 장르에서 벗어나 한국무용의 현대화, 발레와의 융합, 각 장르의 분리, 조합, 재구성 등의 방안을 통하여 다양한 형태의 작품을 창작하였다. 둘째, 한국 남성안무가의 작품에 나타난 미적 특성은 크게 동작미와 리듬미, 신체미, 공간미로 구분하여 살펴보았다. 제임스전의 작품에 나타난 동작미는 동작의 선이 다양하게 나타나며, 대체로 우아하고 아름답다는 느낌을 주었다. 또한, 주인공의 서사와 감정을 강하게 부각한 리듬미, 직선으로 뻗어 올리는 팔과 다리 동작을 통하여 신체의 곧고 강인한 아름다움을 표현한 신체미, 다른 무용에 비해 공간을 크게 활용하고 군무를 이루는 등의 광할한 공간미를 강조하였다. 안성수의 작품에 나타난 동작미는 직선의 형태의 동작과 전통춤의 곡선형태까지 작품에 담으면서 현대무용수와 한국무용수의 동작의 융합을 통해 동작의 아름다움을 표현하였다. 또한, 10여 개 이상의 전통 국악기만을 사용하고 있기 때문에 다른 현대무용의 리듬과는 다른 리듬미, 뛰거나 팔을 위, 옆, 아래로 일직선으로 뻗는 동작을 통해 신체의 곧은 아름다움을 강조하는 신체미, 무대를 넓게 구성하고 방사형으로 무용수를 배치하여 정해진 공간 안에서 공간이 확장되고 축소되는 효과를 통해 공간미를 강조하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 안무가의 작품 경향 및 성향, 무용계의 시대적 트렌드에 따라 미적 특성 역시 다르게 나타날 수 있으나 본 연구에서 선정한 두 안무가의 경우 자신의 안무철학을 기반으로 미적 특성을 반영하였음을 알 수 있다.
