Abstract
In the last 30 years, the aquariums have earned a permanent place among the leisure facilities, becoming moreover a cultural destination for people of all ages. The types of users who frequent these spaces vary a lot, but it can be said that in general, the focus is on younger users who have still to learn about our planet. In these years, with the change and development of the society in various directions, designers tend to pay particular attention to the design of spaces suitable and accessible to everyone, also for the youngest. Focusing therefore on this specific user category, this research analyzes the spatial characteristics of the aquariums through targeted interviews based on the Universal Design concept. Subsequently, on the base of the current Universal Design guideline, improvement proposals and a specific design guideline for young users facilities inside aquariums have been developed. To run the analysis, accurate theoretical research was first carried out and then, from the outcome of the interviews, conclusions have been drawn. In general, more linguistic variety is needed, and it is important to develop an adaptable and intriguing experience for different age groups, and not only for younger children.
