블록체인 투자에 관한 사건연구

Abstract

본 논문은 글로벌 블록체인 산업의 최근 동향을 확인하고 실증분석을 통하여 그러한 경향이 국내에서도 나타나는지를 확인해보고자 한다. McKinsey가 제시한 글로벌 블록체인 산업의 주요 동향은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 금융산업의 블록체인 사업화의 2단계 산업 라이프사이클 진입 실패 가능성이다. 둘째, 유통업, 제조업 등의 업종에서 블록체인 사업 활성화 경향이다. 셋째, 크립토커런시 시장의 불확실성 증대와 여타 산업분야의 블록체인 사업화 활성화 가능성이다. 국내에서도 이러한 유형의 블록체인 산업동향이 나타나는지를 확인하기 위하여 본 논문은 2014년~2018년 사이에 이루어진 176개의 블록체인 투자표본에 대한 사건연구를 실시한 후 다음 결과를 얻었다. 첫째, 금융업종에서 블록체인 투자의 이상수익률은 유의한 값을 나타내었으나 유통서비스 업종에 비해 상대적으로 낮게 나타났다. 둘째, 유통업과 기술제조업의 블록체인 투자가 상대적으로 높은 이상수익률을 나타내었다. 셋째, 크립토커런시 시장심리가 침체되는 시기에 이상수익률이 상대적으로 크게 나타나고, 시장심리가 상승하는 시기에 이상수익률은 작게 나타났다. 이상의 결과들은 글로벌 블록체인 산업의 주요 경향이 우리나라에서도 부분적으로 관철되고 있음을 말해준다. 강건성 검정으로 상하위 5% 극단적 수익률을 제거한 이후에도 이상수익률의 유의성은 유지되었다. 글로벌 블록체인 산업의 주요 동향이 국내에도 관철되고 있다는 사실의 시사점에 주목할 필요가 있다. This paper surveys recent trends of global blockchain industry and tries to confirm whether such tendency appears in Korea through empirical analysis. The major trends in the global blockchain industry presented by McKinsey are as follows. First, there is a possibility that the blockchain commercialization of the financial industry will fail to enter the second phase of the industrial life cycle. Second, there is a tendency that the blockchain business is active in the industries such as the distribution service and the manufacturing industry. Third, the uncertainty in the crypto-currency market is likely to increase the possibility of commercialization of blockchain in other industries. In order to confirm whether this type of blockchain trends exist in Korea, this paper conducted event studies of 176 block-chain investment announcements from 2014 to 2018. Based on this empirical analysis, this paper found that the main tendency of the global blockchain industry were partially appeared in Korea. The fact that the major trends in the global blockchain industry are domesticated in Korea helps to clarify the current complex and erroneous discussion on blockchain and crypto-currency.
