Abstract
In accordance with the diversification of expressive techniques in modern arts, the expressive mode of dye designs have also become diversified with the continuous development of new materials and techniques. In the past, the artistry alone had been highly judged and sought after in the design field. However, with societal changes, the engineering aspects such as practicality and functionality are becoming increasingly important. Accordingly, new technologies in dye design are being developed and recently, there has been a preference for processing-applied designs. Mercerization has already been studied considerably in the engineering field. It has also been used in the textile industry to make various functional improvements and to produce a textile with a greater value. Applying mercerization as a technique for dye designs is likely to help diversify expressive dyeing techniques, thereby dramatically improving the quality of the dye designs. This article analyzed the Crepon effect in accordance with the application of mercerization. The results are as follows. In case of using a thinner textile, an increase in alkali concentration, and steaming, the mercerization treatment resulted in a more visible Crepon effect. Furthermore, the Crepon effect was greater in the woof direction than in the warp direction. Lastly, to produce the Crepon effect, the embossing effect was more visible on the ripple textile than on the ordinary mercerized textile. In addition, various decolorization effects were visible depending on the length of steaming. Therefore, in case of Crepon effect, when we applied the hyperchromic effect together with the decolorization effect by mercerization, a three-dimensional texture effect with profound color appeared . Based on the experimental results above, we found Abstract In accordance with the diversification of expressive techniques in modem arts, the expressive mode of dye designs have also become diversified with the continuous development of new materials and techniques. Applying mercerization as a technique for dye designs is likely to help diversify that an enhancement in dye color and Crepon efect through mercerization could be applied to dye design or textile industry products. Furthermore, applying the hyperchromic and decolorizing effect as well as the Crepon effect together with the previous application method would produce a greater overall effect.
