오정희 소설에 나타난 일탈 행동의 의미 연구

Abstract

오정희 소설 속에는 사회화에 실패한 인물들이 등장한다. 소설 속 유년의 주인공들은 거리를 방황하며 주변 여성들의 삶을 관찰하고, 그들의 삶에 혐오와 연민의 감정을 느낀다. 성인 주인공들 또한 일상을 낯설게 바라보며 지독한 권태와 공허감 속에서 살아간다. 이러한 주인공들의 사회화의 실패양상은 ‘일탈 행동’으로 구체화되어 나타난다. 본 연구는 이러한 일탈의 다양한 양태를 분석함으로써 궁극적으로 주인공들이 ‘왜 일상을 벗어나고자 하는가’ 혹은 ‘왜 일상의 규범, 삶의 법칙을 거부하는가’의 의미를 분석하는 것이 목적이다. 먼저 주변 여성들의 삶을 관찰하는 유년의 주인공들은 끊임없이 임신하고 있는 여성의 동물적 삶에 혐오감과 연민의 감정을 느낀다. 또한 남성에 의해 행복과 불행이 결정되는 여성의 삶은 서러움과 안타까움의 대상이다. 결국 유년의 주인공들은 성인 여성으로 가는 통과의례를 거부하거나 식탐, 도벽, 동성애 등의 일탈 행동을 보인다. 이러한 일탈 행동은 가부장제 사회에서 아이 낳기만을 강요당하는 여성의 삶에 대한 거부이자, 여성의 행복과 불행을 결정짓는 남성 질서에 대한 거부이다. 유년의 주인공들이 성장하여 결혼하고 한 남자의 아내와 아이들의 어머니로 자리를 옮겨 앉았지만, 그들이 여성의 삶을 바라보는 공허함과 안타까움은 유년과 동일하다. 그들의 일상은 지독한 권태와 소외감으로 고인 물처럼 정체되어 있으며, 그들은 ‘이렇게 어떻게 평생을 사나’ 자문하고, ‘자신의 뿌리는 무엇인가’에 대해 고민한다. 결국 그들은 일상의 탈출을 꿈꾸고, 이는 외출이나 가출의 형태로 나타나거나, 동물 살해와 의미 없는 발화 등의 구체적인 일탈 행동을 보이게 된다. 외출과 가출을 통해 주인공들은 고여 있는 일상 속에서의 자신의 삶을 객관적으로 관찰하게 되고, ‘나는 누구인가’에 대한 구체적인 존재 탐색의 과정을 밟게 된다. 또한 동물 살해와 발설 행위는 고여 있는 삶에 대한 인식과 이에 대한 거부의 몸짓이다. 결국 성인 주인공들이 보이는 일탈 행동들은 정체된 삶에 대한 자각, 일상에 파묻혀 잊고 지내던 자신에 대한 자각 과정이다. 달리 말해 이는 ‘자기 확인 작업’이라고 할 수 있다. 일탈 행동을 통해 자신의 존재를 자각한 주인공들은 일상으로 회귀하게 된다. 주인공들은 이제 일상에서 자신의 삶을 매 순간 관찰하고 의식하며 살아간다. 그리고 그 속에서 새로운 정체성을 찾기 위해 노력한다. 구체적인 모습은 비일상적 공간에서 자신을 구원해 줄 환상의 ‘그’라는 존재를 희구하거나, 끊임없이 일상의 모순을 인식하고 탈출을 욕망하는 것이다. 비일상의 공간을 꿈 꾸면서 일상의 삶을 살아야 하는 주인공들은 고통스럽지만 정직하게 살아가는 것이다. 이는 사회에서 부여한 여성적 삶을 거부하고, 전생애를 걸쳐 자기 존재의 진정한 정체성을 찾고자 하는 정직한 삶의 방식이라고 할 수 있다.; Oh Jung-hee presents characters who failed to socialize. Characters in their childhood wonder around the streets checking out women, and feeling resentment and pity toward them. Adult characters also view the society as unfamiliar, and live life with fatigue and sense of emptiness. Their failure in socialization is embodied by deviant behavior. This report will analysis various aspect of deviation, and find out the fundamental reason the main characters tries to escape every day life or the rules of living. After observing women around her, she refuses to grow up and acts out by over eating, stealing and experimenting homosexuality. These deviant acts are refusal against the pressure of giving birth under patriarchy, and the men for deciding happiness for women. Girls grow up to get married and become a wife and a mother. However, their emptiness and frustration is still there. Everyday is like a standing water with weariness and sense of alienation. These women ask themselves, "how will I live for the rest of my life" and "Where am I from". Ultimately, they dream of escape and the thoughts are expressed by going out, running away, killing animals and saying meaningless things. By going out and running away, the main characters get a chance to look at their life objectively, and take on the process of finding out who they are. Killing animals and saying meaningless things are gesture of rejection toward lifelessness. In other words, these acts are process of self recognition. Through deviant behaviors, main characters find their way back to the regular life. They consciously observe every moment of their life. For example, they dream for the "one" who will save them or long for ways to escape the contradiction they find in every day life. It is tormenting for them to be living in the real world while dreaming the unrealistic, but they lead honest lives. They reject to play a part as a woman that is given to them by the society, and tries to find their own identity, an honest way of living the life.
