패턴인식 기법과 골단판 위치의 통계적 특성을 이용한 골단판 추출 방법

Abstract

뼈 나이 평가는 소아 뼈의 골화정도, 내분비선 장애 등을 쉽게 알아 볼 수 있어 소아 방사선 의학에서 자주 사용되는 방법이다. 뼈 나이 평가를 위해서는 골단판과 손마디 뼈의 길이 넓이 등 뼈 정보가 필요하기 때문에 골단판 영역의 추출이 선행되어야 한다. 하지만 골단판의 성장이 많이 진행되어 손마디 뼈 부분과 붙어 있는 경우와 X-ray 영상이 몽롱화된 경우에는 골단판 추출이 어려운 점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 골단판 성장 여부와 상관없이 다양한 나이의 디지털 X-ray 영상에서 손가락의 골단판을 추출하는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 손가락 경계선의 레이블링 처리를 이용하여 정확한 손가락 영역을 추출하고 EM 알고리즘을 사용하여 골단판의 후보 지역을 생성한다. 그리고 골단판 영역에서는 골단판 지점의 통계적 특성상 손가락 영상의 수직 투영 미분값이 크기 때문에 후보 지역 내에서 수직 투영 미분값의 변화량으로 골단판의 위치를 정확하게 추출한다. 다양한 나이에 대해 실험해 본 결과 제안한 방법은 골단판의 성장 여부와 상관없이 골단판과 손가락 뼈가 붙은 곳에서도 EM 알고리즘과 골단판의 통계적 특성을 사용해 정확한 골단판 영역을 추출할 수 있었다.; Bone age assessment is frequently used in pediatric radiology, because of its capability being able to observe endocrine problems of children. Extraction of epiphyseal should be done in advance, because bone information such as length of epiphyseal and phalange, is needed for bone age assessment. However, if the phalange region and the epiphyseal region are close to each other due to grown epiphyseal and blurred X-ray images, it is hard to extract epiphyseal. In this paper, we propose an epiphyseal extraction algorithm covering digital X-ray images with various ages, disregarding growth level of epiphyseal. Using labeling process of finger boundaries, we extract an exact finger region and then select candidate area of epiphyseal with EM algorithm. The extraction of the location of epiphyseal is done using differential of horizontal projection in the candidate area, because horizontal projection differential of the finger image is too large in the epiphyseal area. As a result of experiment, the epiphyseal was exactly detected via various ages without concerning the growth of the epiphyseal and blurred X-ray images.
