공공미술의 Hybrid 환경조성 연구

Abstract

인간은 환경 속에서 생활하고 있으며, 그 환경 속에서 모든 문화를 체험하고 주변 환경과 긴밀한 유기적인 관계 속에서 조화를 이루며 살고 있다. 환경은 자연적 요소와 인공적 요소가 복합적으로 섞여 구성되어 있으며, 인간의 일상생활에 미치는 영향이 크기 때문에 도시환경의 정서적, 심미적인 환경으로의 변화를 추구하는 것은 우리 삶의 질적 향상에 필연적이라 할 수 있다. 현대도시는 인간이 생활하기 위해 만든 거대한 복합 구조물로써, 오늘날 과학기술의 발달과 산업혁명으로 사회·경제·문화의 발전이 급격히 성장하였다. 이렇게 도시의 인구가 증가되고 도시의 구조나 기능이 복잡해짐에 따라 도시의 기계화, 도시건축의 고층화, 무분별한 개발로 인한 자연파괴, 생태계 파괴, 정서불안 등 많은 문제가 대두되고 있다. 도시환경의 질이 인간의 삶의 질과 밀접하게 연관된다는 점에서 도시환경의 구성이 중대한 과제로 제기되고 있으며, 도시의 효율적인 기능과 도시미관에 관한 문제를 해결함으로써 삭막해진 도시 속의 대중들에게 정서적인 안정과 가치를 회복하고 예술적, 문화적 욕구를 충족시킬 수 있는 휴식 공간으로서의 역할을 강조하게 되었다. 삶의 질적 환경의 중요성이 크게 부각되기 시작하면서 도시의 공간을 미화하고 창조하려는 노력으로 조경적 요소, 인공적 구조물과 미술 등을 포괄하는 확대된 개념의 예술인 공공미술의 환경적 개입을 고려하게 되었다. 공공미술은 조형예술의 특성인 미적 요소를 도시의 일상생활에 개입시키는 방법으로써 미술을 통해 도시의 환경을 쾌적하고 아름답게 변화시키고자 하는 시도이며, 일상생활로의 미술 영역의 확장을 의미한다. 현대도시와 주거공간을 살기 좋은 환경으로 형성하기 위하여 새로운 유형의 공간개발과 다양한 활동을 반영하는 외부공간을 필요로 하게 되었고, 여기에 공공미술은 주변 환경과 조화를 이루면서 쾌적하고 풍요로운 도시공간을 창출하고 동시에 도시 공간을 구성하는 여러 요소들과 함께 미적, 인간적 요소를 부여하며, 도시인에게 인간적인 감정을 회복시키고 정서적인 활력소를 제공하는 역할을 하게 되었다. 그러나 예술의 대중화에는 긍정적이었으나 양적 위주의 작품이 주변 환경과의 부조화로 인하여 오히려 건축물의 장식품이나 소품의 역할을 하고, 공공미술의 본질에 대한 이해 부족과 관계기관의 제도적인 미비점 등으로 인하여 공공미술이 본래의 기능을 다하고 있지 못하는 실정이다. 또한, 공공장소의 비효율적인 기능과 주변 환경과의 부조화로 인한 부정적인 측면이 문제시되고 있다. 공공장소에 설치된 공공미술은 개인의 취향이나 일시적인 경제 가치로 판단되어서는 안 되며, 과거와는 달리 지역의 특성을 반영하고 미래를 고려한 주변 환경에 맞는 작품이 설치되어야 하고 정서적 안정과 인간을 중심으로 하는 도시미관의 개선이 이루어져야 한다. 아파트단지와 같은 공동주택단지에서도 삭막한 외부환경을 개선하기 위하여 미술장식을 개입시켜 외부환경을 미화하고 주민의 일상적인 삶 속에서 심미적 안목을 높이고 정서적 안정감을 주기 위하여 노력하고 있다. 무엇보다도 아파트단지 내에 설치되는 공공미술은 주거를 주목적으로 한다는 특수성을 반영하여야 하며, 장소적 특성에 맞는 작품을 구상하고 설치하여야 한다. 본 연구는 다양한 가치의 적극적 수용, 주변 환경과의 조화, 대중의 요구와 사회적 참여를 유도하기 위한 방안으로 21세기 사회, 문화적 흐름인 다문화적 양상의 하이브리드적 개념을 공공미술의 설치방안으로 도입하여 새로운 접근과 다양한 가치의 가능성을 모색하였다. 21세기의 사회적, 문화적 시각에 큰 변화가 일어나면서 문화를 보는 패러다임이 전환되었고, 다양한 민족· 문화권·계층·형태의 문화가 공존하는 다문화 사회의 흐름이 등장하게 되었다. 결국 다문화 사회에서는 모든 가치가 상대화되고 다원화됨으로 인하여 새로운 스타일을 만드는 것이 아니라, 기존의 것을 조합·병치·중첩시킴으로써 새로움을 추구하고자하는 하이브리드 양상으로 나타났다. 이러한 하이브리드 양상은 문화적 흐름에도 영향을 주고, 현대 도시환경에도 영향을 주기 시작하여, 현대 도시환경의 새로운 특징 중 하나로 공간 속에서 주변 환경·구조물·미술이 형태적·위치적·의미론적으로 하이브리드 됨으로써 단일공간이 가지는 분리적 한계에서 탈피하고자 하는 양상으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 도시환경에서 도시·구조물·미술·조경적 요소의 하이브리드 패러다임을 인식하고 공공장소와 공공미술, 공공장소와 대중의 참여적 소통, 공공미술과 대중의 관계를 일상생활에 개입시켜 공공미술의 역할과 필요성을 재조명하였다. 공공장소와 공공미술의 이상적인 하이브리드적 환경조성을 위하여 공공성·대중성·정체성·장소성·총체성의 관계와 환경친화적 미학으로서의 가능성과 가치를 연구함으로써 공동체적인 공공미술이 나아가야할 방향성을 제시하였다. 미술을 일상생활의 공간으로 들여왔다는 의미를 바탕으로 최근에 발생된‘새로운 공공미술’의 개념과 Community Art의 개념의 융합이 가장 하이브리드적인 공공미술로의 이행으로 정의하여 그 가능성을 제안하였다. 즉, 공공미술의 미래적 방향성을 사회참여적인 커뮤니케이션 방식으로 규정하고, 대중과의 틈을 줄이고 그들의 적극적인 참여를 유도하는 하이브리드적 공공미술에 중점을 두었다. 사회참여 공공미술의 사례 연구와 부천시 삼산 미소지움아파트와 인천시 논현 대한주택공사의 아파트단지의 시작품을 통해서 공공미술의 하이브리드적 환경조성의 연구결과를 도출하였다. 현대 사회의 다원화와 다가치성의 추구 등은 사회 전반적으로 하이브리드 현상은 계속 될 것이며, 도시화에 따른 쾌적한 환경에 대한 관심의 증대, 삶의 질 향상, 대중의 적극적인 참여 추구 등으로 미술·도시·조경적 요소 등 도시환경 분야의 하이브리드 양상은 표현 방법의 다각화를 중심으로 더욱 증가될 것으로 여겨진다. 결국 공공미술이 기능을 발휘하고 공공미술 자체의 구성과 도시 공공장소의 조형적 특성이 상호 융합되며, 도시 공공장소와의 조화, 균형, 질서가 이루어져 대중에게 정서적 안정과 휴식공간을 제공할 수 있는 하이브리드적 공공미술을 통한 인간 중심의 생활환경을 만들어야 한다.; A human being lives in an environment. Man, the subject of the environment surrounded by human and his activities, experiences all kinds of culture in the surroundings. Thus, a human is living in his surroundings while harmonizing and keeping close cooperation with it. Since the environment is a combination of natural and artificial elements and it largely affects a human life, it's necessary to seek after emotional and aesthetic changes of environments in cities for our better living quality. As the modern society is an enormous complex structure made in order for man to live, the economy, society and culture have rapidly grown thanks to the industry revolution and science-technology development. However, with the economic growth, while the city has been functionally developed, the form of city has been standardized. Owing to the population growth and structural and functional complication in cities, we have faced many problems such as city mechanization, Manhattanization, nature and ecosystem destruction, emotional anxiety caused by the indiscreet development. On the point of that the quality of city environment is intimately related with that of human life, the formation of city environment has been presented as an important task. As solving the problems about beauty and the efficient function of city and townscape, we began to focus the city as a space to relax and satisfy our artistic and cultural desire with emotional stability and human value recovery. Also, thanks to the effort to beautify and create the city space, the public art of expanded idea including landscape architectural factor, artificial structure, art is considered to intervene in the environment. The public art is an attempt to pleasantly and beautifully change the city environment through arts as a way of actualizing aesthetic harmonization, the characteristic of art in our daily city life. In order to make the city and living space a better environment, we needed a new form of space development and external space for various activities. Therefore, the public arts began to create pleasant and bountiful living space in cities harmonizing with surroundings and simultaneously it played a role to give aesthetic and humane factors with others making up city space so that city dwellers could get feelings recovered humanity and emotionally refreshed. There is a positive side that residents can have stable emotion and more views for artistic works, but it's a problem that the quantitative swelling of disorderly designed works do not go along with surroundings and function inefficiently in public place. The public art sets in public space shouldn't be judged by an individual taste or temporarily economic worth. The works should reflect the local characteristic and go well with surroundings considering futures thus, the view of city focusing on emotional stability and humanization should be improved. Like the public arts has helped to beautify dry city environments and purify public emotions, assorted group housing areas such as apartments make efforts to beatify surroundings by making better outside so that people will be able to raise their aesthetic view and feel easy in their life. Most above all, public art in apartments should reflect the characteristic of aiming at residing and it should be designed and set to match with a place. In this study, I explained about a new approach and various possibilities of Hybrid concept as a setup method of public arts. The hybrid idea is a multi-cultural aspect as 21c social and cultural trend which leads positive acceptance of various values, harmonization with surroundings, public need and social participation. A paradigm to see a culture has turned as the social and cultural view of 21c largely changed. Also, multi-cultural society having many kinds of nation, culture, class, form together appeared as a trend. After all in the multi-cultural society, all values become relative and plural, so they are expressed by the aspect of Hybrid to chase new things by matching, juxtaposing, merging the existing things without making a new style. Hybrid means a fusion of two different things and a new birth resulted from that, so a barrier between any conflicts was broken and it started to affect the modern city environment and culture trend. In the past, they made a dichotomous space system that natural and artificial factors of external space in city environment had each grade of ranks. But, now our surroundings, structures and arts formally, semantically become Hybrid, so it's regarded as a try to break from the separative limit a single place has. In this study, understanding the Hybrid paradigm of city, relationship of public space and public art, public space and communication of the masses, public art and masses is joined in the surround of our life, I redefined the role and need of public arts. In order to make an ideal Hybrid environment in public places and public arts, we need to find the potential and worth of it as eco-friendly aesthetics and its publicness popularity identity, that I’ve studied to show the direction of the community arts. On the basis of the meaning of joining arts in a daily living space, the Hybrid is the newest concept as fusion of 'a new genre public arts' and 'communication art'. It therefore showed its potential performing as public arts. The future direction of public arts is provided as a communicating method of social participation and we focus on Hybrid public arts to narrow the gab with people and draw their positive participation. Especially, I accounted for a product of Hybrid environment through Apt. Misojium in Samsan, Puchon and Apt. complex of the Korea Housing Corporation in Nonhyun, Inchon putting efforts to make a better environment of public spaces. Caused by the pursuit of pluralism and various values in modern society, the appearance of Hybrid will last over all society. Thanks to expanded interest in pleasant environment, quality improvement of life and people’s need of positive participation followed by urbanization, the Hybrid appearance of a field of the city environment including arts, city, and landscape architecture factors will be enlarged with diversification of expression method. The public art should be functioning and its own design and city public places’characteristic need to be interactive. After all we need to make people-oriented living places or environment through Hybrid public arts, which can make people feel more stable and relax with harmonized, balanced and organized city public spaces.
