한국 도서관광의 매력요인 분석

Abstract

최근 지리적 취약성 때문에 육지보다 사회·경제적으로 낙후를 면치 못하였던 섬들이 관광지로서 각광을 받기 시작하면서 관광패턴이 내륙에서 해양으로, 인위적 자원에서 문화·생태자원으로 변화함에 따라 도서관광에 대한 수요가 지속적으로 증가하고 있다. 그러나 우리나라의 도서관광은 정부, 자치단체, 또는 관광업계 등의 의욕과 노력에 비해 아직은 그 개념과 목표가 명확하게 정립되어 있지 않고, 해양관광과 관련된 연구나 조사보고서는 대부분 해안형 자원에 치중하고 있어 도서관광에 대한 학문적 연구나 조사자료는 매우 미흡한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 관광객이 도서지역을 방문하게 되는 주요 관광매력요인과 이를 뒷받침하는 주된 관광자원을 파악하고, 인구통계학적인 특성과 도서의 관광 콘텐츠유형에 따라 도서관광 매력요인의 중요도는 차이가 있음을 밝힘으로써 이를 바탕으로 도서관광객을 지속적으로 끌어들이기 위한 다양한 도서관광상품의 개발과 우리나라 도서유형별 차별화된 관광개발정책의 시사점을 제시하고자 다음과 같은 연구목적을 가지고 분석을 실시하였다. 첫째, 관광객이 방문하는 도서의 콘텐츠유형(정태형:靜態型, 동태형:動態型, 혼합형 混合型)과 인구통계학적인 특성에 따라 도서관광 매력요인의 중요도는 차이가 있음을 분석하고, 둘째, 기존 선행연구를 통해 도서관광의 매력요인을 추출하고, 관광지 속성평가에 유용한 기법인 IPA를 이용하여 각각의 매력요인에 대해 여행 전 중요하게 생각한 매력요인의 중요도와 실제 여행 후 매력요인의 성취도 차이평가를 통해 도서유형별 도서관광의 중요한 관광매력요인을 파악하고, 셋째, 도서관광 매력요인의 성취도가 종합적인 도서관광의 만족도에 미치는 영향은 차이가 있음을 파악하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 관광자의 인구통계학적인 특성에 따라 여행 전 도서관광 매력요인의 중요도는 유의한 차이가 있었다. 결혼을 하지 않은 미혼자, 자연적인 거주조건이 상대적으로 좋은 강원, 제주, 해외 거주자가 자연성에 더 많은 중요도를 두고 있었다. 그리고 성별, 연령, 결혼유무와 자녀유무에 따라 토속·역사성 및 체험성에 유의한 차이를 보였는데, 여자 관광객과 젊은 20~30대(미혼)일수록 토속·역사성과 체험성에 더 많은 중요도를 두고 있었다. 둘째, 관광자가 방문하는 도서의 콘텐츠유형에 따라 여행 전 도서관광 매력요인의 중요도는 유의한 차이가 있었다. 3개의 도서유형 모두 해안경관과 지형, 계절과 기후의 쾌적성, 섬의 명성(유명세) 등을 여행 전 도서관광 매력요인의 가장 중요요인으로 생각하여 자연성은 도서유형별로 유의한 차이가 없었지만, 나머지 매력요인(환대성, 토속·역사성, 체험성, 시설, 기타)들은 모두 유의한 차이가 있었다. 반면 3개 도서 모두에서 쇼핑시설, 유희(놀이)시설, 축제 및 이벤트 활동 등은 가장 중요도가 낮게 나타나 도서를 찾는 관광객들은 도시에서 느껴보지 못한 여유와 한적함, 자연을 즐기기 위해 방문하는 것으로 판단되었다. 셋째, 방문 전 도서관광 매력요인의 중요도와 방문 후 실제 성취도는 유의한 차이가 있었다. 도서관광의 가장 큰 특성인 자연성과 환대성(해안경관 및 도서민의 후한 인심 등)은 도서관광 매력요인의 중요도와 성취도에 있어서 유의한 차이를 미치지는 않았지만, 나머지 토속·역사성, 체험성, 시설, 기타 요인 등은 모두 유의한 차이를 보였다. 이러한 도서관광의 매력요인의 중요도와 실제 성취도의 차이 평가를 통해 관광객들의 기대와 욕구에 맞는 관광 상품, 시설 및 프로그램의 개발 운영 등으로 현실성 있는 도서관광정책의 수립이 가능하다고 본다. 넷째, 도서관광 매력요인의 성취도가 관광자의 종합적인 도서관광 만족도에 영향을 미쳤다. 자연성, 환대성, 토속·역사성, 기타 매력요인의 성취도는 종합적인 도서관광의 만족도에 영향을 미쳤지만, ‘체험성과 시설의 성취도가 종합적인 도서관광 만족도에 영향을 미칠 것이다’라는 가설은 기각되었는데, 이는 도서의 특성상 체험여건과 시설이 다소 미흡하더라도 도서관광 본연의 목적인 자연경관이나 도서의 독특한 풍습, 지역주민과 관광 종사자의 태도 등에 만족을 하면 전반적으로 도서관광에 만족하는 것으로 판단된다. 이는 도서관광에서 자연경관이 차지하는 비중이 매우 높음을 의미하므로 도서 주변의 자연경관과 조화를 이루지 않는 인위적인 시설물의 건설은 도서관광의 가장 큰 매력요인인 자연성을 잃게 되는 결과를 가져오므로 도서 개발시 이러한 점을 고려해야 함을 시사한다.; Many Korean small islands have not been attractive places for tourists because of geographical, social and economical aspects. However, in recent years, small islands have become attractive places by changing tourist patterns from inland areas to the ocean, and from artificial resorts to natural places. However, there are no clear concepts and the government's aims of small island tourism although many government officials and researchers have made a great deal of effort for the development of small island tourism. Also there have been not enough researches about small island tourist attraction, although there is a great deal of work on ocean tourism which mostly focuses on coastal resources. This research investigated what kind of tourist factors and attractions influence tourists for their decision to visit small islands. I tried to find differences in the various tourist attraction factors of small islands which depend on demographic characteristics or island types. It suggests how Korean government develops the tourist industry and policy for small island tourism. To carry out these themes I discussed the importance of the tourist attraction factors of small islands which may differ with types of tourism contents of small islands (a static, a dynamic and a mixed type) and demographic characteristics. I also tried to find out the tourist attraction factors of small islands from previous researches, and I used I.P.A (Importance-Performance Analysis) to find differences of main attraction factors before and after tourists visit islands. I also attempted to elucidate how attraction of small island tourism achievement can affect the total tourist satisfaction. I could get following results from the issues outlined above. Firstly, there are some differences in the importance of tourist attraction factors which depends on the demographic characteristics. The tourists who are single and living in KangWon Do, JeJu Island and foreign countries, place the emphasis on the natural environment. And the tourists who are single women in their twenties and thirties, place the emphasis on the local custom and history. Secondly, there are also differences in the importance of tourist attraction factors which depends on three types of tourist contents of small islands (scenery, climate and famousness). When the tourists choose a small island they place the emphasis on the scenery, climate and famousness of the island rather than shopping, artificial facility, event and festival, because most of them visit small island for relaxation and enjoying the natural environment. Thirdly, there are differences between the importance of tourist attraction factors and the performance of tourist attraction factors. The importance of tourist attraction factors is not affected by the natural environment and hospitality of islanders, but it is affected by the others such as the local custom, history, tourist facilities, etc. These differences between the importance of tourist attraction factors and the performance of tourist attraction factors will be able to help the government to develop the small island truism such as tourist items, facilities and programs. Finally, the total satisfaction of the small island tourism is affected by the performance of tourist attraction factors. The natural environment, the local custom and history affect the total satisfaction of the small island tourism, but experience and tourist facilities do not affect it. It can be said that although small islands do not have enough tourist facilities and experience, tourists will be satisfied with the natural environment, the local custom, history and hospitality of islanders. It also shows the importance of the natural environment for the small island tourism. Therefore, the natural environment is a top priority in the development of the small island tourism. Additionally, most Korean small islands lag far behind other inland areas in the quality of life because of the inaccessibility. Thus, I think it is fair to say that the government must place emphasis on an improvement in living standards of islanders for the development of small island tourism. The quality of the islander's life is directly connected to the inducement of tourists. Moreover, as indicated above, when the tourist choose a small island they place the great emphasis on famousness of the island. However, many tourists do not have enough information about small islands because of the inaccessibility. Therefore, it is quite important to advertise the island in extensively for attracting tourists. Through the various efforts for improving the quality of life and extensive advertising, the government will be able to develop the small island tourism.
