감사인의 세무조정서비스가 법인세율 인하에 따른 이익조정에 미치는 영향

Abstract

It is a world-wide trend that nations lower the corporate tax rates to enhance the competitiveness of domestic enterprises and attract foreign capital. It is expected that reductions in corporate tax motivates firms to minimize tax burden. If managers of enterprises perceive the lowing of corporation tax rates, they will want to defer earning from the year with the event of lowing corporation tax rates to the next year to reduce tax burden. Therefore, this study first identifies the influence of tax rate reductions on earnings management by using the concept of discretionary accruals. Then, it verifies together whether earnings management that correspond to lowing corporation tax rates when auditors run parallel to tax adjustment services. Also this study does an additional test on whether aggressive tax-planning firms do more earnings management compared to those that are not. To verify the above companies listed on Korea Stock Exchange and KOSDAQ, for five years, from 2001 to 2005, were selected, and data concerning tax adjustment services are collected. The results of the empirical research are as follows: First, when auditors offer audit services and tax adjustment services at the same time, tax reductions were not negatively and significantly related. This implies that tax adjustment services of auditors do not give the motivation to manage earnings. Second, for aggressive tax-planning firms in the KOSDAQ market corporate tax rete reductions were significantly associate with earnings management than those firms.; 본 연구에서는 재량적 발생액을 이용하여 기업이 법인세율 인하에 대응하여 이익조정을 하였는지를 살펴보았고, 이와 더불어 감사인이 감사서비스와 세무조정서비스를 병행하는 경우 법인세율 인하에 따른 이익조정 여부를 함께 검증해 보았다.
