The English Revolution of the mid-seventeenth century is complex period which involved the downfall of Charles Ⅰ's government, civil wars, social upheaval and the creation of a republic. In the seventeenth century England as a modern society and state began to take shape, and its position in Europe was to change upward. Therefore the Stuart was perhaps the most decisive in English history and it has long attracted the attention of historians.
This thesis is to analysis on the 'English Revolution' as presented 7th high school world history textbooks. But the subject was limited on the causes of the Revolution(1642). ChapterⅠ describes interpretation of the Revolution from Tory's to Revisionist interpretation. In other words English Revolution was occured to complex causes. Recently many historians concerned with their subjects in the relations of the multiple kingdoms. In particular Russell and Morrill have stressed the English Revolution was one of the British crises and it ought to be studied in the British context.
ChapterⅡ examines format of 7th high school world history textbooks and illustration data, quantity on the 'English Revolution'. In ChapterⅢ it will trace the causes of the Revolution through the each new textbooks.
The conclusion is that many problems still remain to be improved in the new textbooks. The New Textbooks failed to update the new research trends and sticks to the old theories. They still argue that English Revolution is 'a puritan Revolution'. They also neglect social and cultural aspects of history, as political history is too much emphasized. In addition to, there are the enlargement of the volume of textbooks, the attitude of description which can enhance the historical mind and more easy the narrative style etc.
