인터넷 파일공유 행위에 관한 경제사회학적 연구

Abstract

이 연구는 불법적인 행위 이지만 인터넷에서 활발히 행해지고 있는 파일공유 행위를 경제사회학적 관점으로 분석하고자 하였다. 디지털 사회의 도래로 새로운 가치가 창조되고 막대한 경제적 효과에 대한 장밋빛 전망이 지배적이었다. 하지만 디지털 콘텐츠 시장의 현황은 불법 복제 및 불법 파일 공유로 큰 위기에 직면해 있다. 사법당국은 좀 더 강력한 단속과 처벌을 통해 불법 파일 공유 문제를 해결하고자 하고 있지만 불법 파일로 인한 손실은 해마다 늘어가는 추세다. 논문에서는 불법행위로 인한 처벌과 시간 및 비용의 지불을 감수하고라도 파일을 제공하는 사람들을 실증적 분석을 통해 파일공유행위의 경제사회학적 의미에 대해 분석해 보았다. 실증적 연구결과 파일공유 참여 동기 중 사회적 참여, 대중적 수요, 개인적 필요, 심리적 만족이 파일공유 행위에 긍정적인 유인으로 작용하는 것으로 나타났다. 반면 물질적 보상은 부정적인 유인으로 작용하였다. 이는 파일공유 행위가 개인의 이익을 추구하기 위해 이뤄진다는 일반적인 생각과는 정 반대의 결과로 오히려 파일 공유 행위를 통해 사회에 참여하는 동기와 타인의 수요를 고려하는 이타적인 동기, 심리적 만족감 등이 긍정적으로 작용하고 있었다. 파일공유 참여 태도에서는 시간과 비용, 호혜성, 이타주의 중 호혜성이 파일공유 행위에 긍정적인 유인으로 작용함을 알 수 있었으며 공유 수단별로는 P2P에서 호혜성이 파일공유 행위에 긍정적인 유인으로 이타주의는 부정적인 유인으로 작용 했으며 웹하드 에서는 시간과 비용이 파일공유 행위에 긍정적인 유인으로 작용하고 있었다. 웹메일에서는 이타주의가 파일공유 행위에 긍정적인 유인으로 작용하는 것으로 나타나 각 공유수단의 특징과 부합함을 알 수 있었다. 자신의 행위가 불법임을 인지하는 상황에서 자신의 파일공유 행위에 대한 정당화가 파일공유 행위에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 알아본 분석에서는 기존시장에 대한 항의의 표현으로 파일 공유를 정당화 하는 태도와 공유의 순기능을 강조하는 태도가 파일 공유 행위에 긍정적인 유인으로 작용하였다. 평소 인터넷 이용태도에서는 새로운 기술과 제품에 관심을 갖는 얼리어답터 특성과 평소 정보를 제공하기를 즐기는 태도가 파일공유 행위에 긍정적인 유인으로 작용하고 있었다. 이와 같은 결과는 파일제공 행위가 개인의 이익을 추구하기 위해 이뤄질 것이라는 생각과는 상반되는 것이다. 파일 제공 행위가 경제적 이익을 추구하기 위해 이뤄지기 보다는 사회적 참여, 이타적 동기, 심리적 만족감과 같은 요소가 오프라인과 마찬가지로 인터넷에서 이뤄지는 파일공유 행위에서도 작용하고 있음을 보여준다. 즉, 사이버 공간에서의 경제행위가 일상생활의 경제행위와 마찬가지로 사회적 관계에 기반 해 작동하고 있는 것이다.; This study is to analyze the illegal but widespread file-sharing activities in the internet from the economic sociological point of view. The internet has been a driving force of drastic changes in every aspect of our lives. The advent of the new digital era has brought the bright outlook for creating unprecedented values and consequent economic effects. The digital contents business faces a crisis due to the pirate copies and illegal file-sharing. Although the judicial authorities have confidently declared the crackdown on copyright piracy, the vice is rising rapidly. The objective of this study is to evaluate the economic sociological meaning of the file sharing activities by looking into the people who voluntarily commit the crime regardless of punishments. The main motivators of this file-sharing behavior, as shown in this research, are the following: · Desire to participate in and belong to communities · Public demand and private needs for the complimentary contents · Self-satisfaction It also shows that the file provider seeks no material gains, contradictory to general understanding. Further analysis shows three factors that affect the behavior of file-sharing, mainly Time and cost, Reciprocity, Altruism. Reciprocity has a positive effect on the behavior of the file provider, as evidenced in this report. In medium sharing for P2P, reciprocity creates a positive outcome while altruism generates a negative result. For web-hard, time and cost reap a positive effect on file providers behavior. Altruism, on the other hand creates a positive factor for web-mail. All of these show that the behavior is dependent on the characteristic of each medium. These results contradict the idea that the cause of file-providing activity is pursuing of personal benefit. File-providing activity was affected by some factor such as a social participation, an altruistic motivation and a Psychological satisfaction rather than economical benefit. In other words, the economical activity in the cyber space is based on social relationships likewise common economic activity.
