이덕무 산문의 진정론과 기의 풍격

Abstract

본 논문은 이덕무(李德懋, 1741~1793) 산문에서 眞情論을 밝히고 그것이 奇로 표현되는 상관성과 의미를 살피는 것을 목적으로 한다. 眞情은 이덕무 뿐 만이 아니라 18세기 문인들의 주요 화두였다. 18세기 조선 문단이 주장한 眞은 주변의 것에서 가치를 발견하고 옛 것의 모방에서 벗어나 지금의 것을 추구하자는 데에 있다. 이덕무는 동심을 중점에 두고 자신만의 眞情論을 전개해 간다. 그가 아이의 천진함을 眞情의 발로로 삼은 것은, 아이는 天氣를 그대로 간직하고 있기 때문이다. 그는 자연과 사물에서도 眞情을 발견한다. 그들의 질서에 담긴 이치는 지순함과 생명력을 가졌으며 이는 인간사와 철학으로 확대가 가능하다. 그 안에 반영된 이덕무의 진솔한 감정은 독자에게 전달되어 독자는 그의 글에 동감하고 감동한다. 이러한 이덕무의 眞情은 奇와 상관성을 가진다. 이덕무가 작품에 드러낸 奇는 기괴함이 아닌 순수 혹은 신기, 개성 등으로 풀이된다. 그 중심에는 眞情이 자리한다. 반대로 이덕무의 眞情이 奇가 되기도 한다. 이는 眞情이 主가 아닌 客이 되는 상황에서 벌어진다. 이러한 전제를 바탕으로 본문에서는 奇의 표현 및 의미와 작품에 나타난 양상을 연구하고 眞情과의 연관성을 찾는다. 이덕무는 주로 연암학파에 소속된 한 사람으로서 인식되었으나 그의 글은 박지원의 그늘에 가려지기에는 작품의 양도 엄청날 뿐더러 글의 수준 역시 높다. 또한 현 연구자들은 서얼이라는 신분 속에서 이덕무의 이미지를 만들고 해석하였다. 이는 그동안 이덕무와 그의 작품 해석에 대한 다양성을 차단하였다. 이번 논문을 통해 차단된 시선에서 벗어나 이덕무와 그의 글을 해석하는 계기를 마련코자 한다.; This study is to focus on the discussion about Jinjung(眞情) of Lee Duk-Moo's proses and connection with Ki(奇). Jinjung(眞情) is a very important topic to not only Lee Duk-Moo but also many literary men in the 18th century. The Jin(眞) of Chosun in the 18th century is to focus on discovery of value in small things and pursuit of the present. Lee Duk-Moo puts the accent on the mind of a child to develop his own discussion about Jinjung(眞情) because the mind of a child is unartificial energy. He also discover Jinjung(眞情) in nature and objects. Their principle of system has purity and vitality, it can be extended to human life and philosophy. Lee Duk-Moo communicates his true emotion to readers in his literary works, the readers feel the same way as him. Lee Duk-Moo's Jinjung(眞情) connects with the Ki(奇). The Ki(奇) in his literary works is explained to purity, marvels and personality not a strange thing. Because the center of Ki(奇) has Jinjung(眞情). On the other hand, sometimes Lee Duk-Moo's Jinjung(眞情) becomes Ki(奇) when Jinjung(眞情) and Ki(奇) are reversed. Stand on this premise, I search the expression of Ki(奇) and the meaning. I also study aspects of the expression and connection with Ki(奇) in Lee Duk-Moo's literary works. Lee Duk-Moo has been understood a member of the Yunam school(燕岩學派), but we have to consider about it. He deserves to recognize as special one of literary men. Because he has left a quantity of literary works and their quality is also very high. Also researchers of Lee Duk-Moo have made his image in connection with his social position which is a child born of a concubine. This state has interfered with various explanations about Lee Duk-Moo and his literary works. I anticipate making an opportunity from this thesis to explain Lee Duk-Moo and his literary works without prejudice.
