성인의 죽음준비교육에 관한 연구

Abstract

Death is recognized as one unescapable step of life rather than the opposite idea of life today. Death, however, is still the most threatening event to human identity and inevitably becomes the object of fear and fright. One way that a person can overcome and manage the fear of death is to recognize and understand death accurately and prepare for it. Accordingly, the necessity of death preparation education should be considered in lifelong education level. From the result of research about adult's death preparation education, 28.6% of the subjects have experience of death preparation education, having more fear to death and disease, 80% of the subjects recognizes the necessity of death preparation education. The result shows that the recognition of the necessity of death preparation education is raised, but death preparation education is not carried out enough. As demographical feature, experience of death preparation education, and recognition to the necessity of death preparation education along perception of death are researched, it is substantiated that females of advanced age with experience of death education have more recognition of the necessity of death education significantly. The necessity of death preparation education are reported as to spend remaining days worth while, and prepare for death effectively. And for the death education program, the most requested contents are about the meaning of death, value of life, and preparing for remaining days, the place to be religion organization or education facilities, and the time and target are adults over university students, and the aged over 60. The result suggests the necessity of death preparation education drawing on existing recognition and desire for death preparation education, and proposes the program and method of death preparation education. Also, this research has its meaning in changing social recognition of death preparation education, necessity of developing death education programs, and giving policy suggestion to raise experts of death preparation education and conduct ife long education on national level.; 현대사회에서 죽음은 삶과 반대되는 개념이 아니라 삶에서 필연적으로 거쳐야 할 하나의 단계로 인식되고 있다. 이러한 죽음은 인간의 정체성을 위협하는 가장 큰 사건으로 인간에게 공포와 두려움의 대상이 될 수 밖에 없는 것이다. 인간이 죽음에 대한 두려움을 극복하고 대처할 수 있는 하나의 방법은 죽음을 올바르게 인식하여 죽음을 이해하고 준비하는 것이라고 할 것이다. 따라서 성인의 죽음준비교육은 평생교육 차원에서 그 필요성이 크다고 아니 할 수 없다. 성인의 죽음준비교육에 관한 연구결과 조사대상자 중 28.6%가 죽음준비교육을 받아 본 경험이 있고, 죽음 및 질병에 대한 인식이 상당히 높은 수준이었으며, 80%가 죽음준비교육의 필요성을 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 죽음에 대한 인식 및 필요성에 대한 인식이 높으나 실제 죽음준비교육은 활발히 이루어지고 있지 않음을 보여준다. 인구사회학적 특성·죽음준비교육의 경험여부·죽음인식의 정도에 따른 죽음준비교육의 필요성 인식 차이를 살펴본 결과, 여성이며 연령이 높고, 죽음준비교육을 경험한 집단의 죽음준비교육 필요성 인식이 통계적으로 유의하게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 죽음준비교육이 필요한 이유에서는 남은 여생을 보람되게 보내고, 죽음에 대한 실질적인 준비를 하기 위해서 죽음준비교육이 필요하다고 응답하였다. 마지막으로 죽음준비교육의 프로그램 구성과 관련한 프로그램의 내용은 죽음의 의미나 삶의 가치, 남은 여생의 삶 준비가 가장 많았고, 교육장소는 종교기관·교육기관이었으며, 교육시기 및 대상은 대학생 이상의 성인과 60세 이상의 노인이 가장 많았다. 이러한 결과는 죽음준비교육에 대한 성인들의 인식 및 욕구가 높음을 보여주어 죽음준비교육의 필요성을 제기하며, 죽음준비교육의 프로그램 구성이나 내용이 어떤 방법으로 이루어져야 할 지에 대한 기초자료를 제공한다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 본 연구결과를 기반으로 죽음준비교육에 대한 사회적 인식변화, 죽음준비교육에 대한 홍보 및 프로그램 개발의 필요 등 사회복지적 측면과 죽음준비교육의 전문가 양성 및 국가차원에서 평생교육 실시 등 정책적 측면을 제언했다는 점에서 함의가 있다고 할 것이다.
