학교도서관 이용자 교육의 현황과 교육 효과에 관한 연구

Abstract

학교도서관이 학교 교육의 핵심적인 역할을 수행하고, 교수-학습을 효율적으로 지원하기 위해서는 충분한 자료와 필요 시설을 갖추고, 학교도서관 전문인력에 의해 이용자 교육을 지속적이고 체계적으로 계획하여 실시할 필요가 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 학교도서관이 환경적 측면에서의 수준 정도를 알아보고, 이용자 교육의 현황을 통한 학생들의 학교도서관 이용 능력을 살펴보고자 하였다.

본 연구는 의정부지역 중학교 중에서 사서 및 사서교사 배치되어 있는 학교도서관을 조사 대상으로 하였다. 사서 및 사서교사는 설문지법과 전화질문법으로 조사하였고, 학생은 각 학교 100명의 학생을 선정하여 설문지법으로 조사하였다.

본 연구의 조사 결과 학교도서관의 자료나 시설, 전문인력은 한국도서관협회의 학교도서관 기준에 미치지 못하는 수준이었으며, 이용자 교육의 실시는 일시적인 형태로 이루어지거나 동일한 내용을 반복적으로 교육하고 있었다. 이용자 교육의 효과는 학교도서관 담당자의 직책, 연수 경험의 유무, 학생의 이용 빈도에 따라 학생들의 학교도서관 이용 능력에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 그러나 학교도서관 담당자의 경력이나 이용자 교육의 형태는 영향을 미치지 못하는 것으로 나타났다.

따라서, 학교도서관 이용자 교육이 정보활용교육으로 발전하기 위해 나아갈 방향을 제언하면 다음과 같다.

첫째, 이용자 교육이 효율적으로 실시되기 위해서는 자료나 시설적 환경이 우선적으로 구축되고 유지될 수 있는 예산이 확보되어야 한다. 둘째, 이용자 교육이 지속적이고 체계적으로 이루어질 수 있도록 교육 시간의 확보가 이루어져야 한다. 셋째, 이용자 교육이 1학년은 특설법 형태로 2․ 3학년은 융합법 형태로 실시되어야 한다. 넷째, 사서교사가 한 학교에 최소 한 명은 배치될 수 있도록 임용을 늘려 의무적으로 배치해야 한다.; School libraries need to contain enough materials and equipment, and to have consistent and systematic "use education", in order to play a leading role in education and to support teaching-learning procedures efficiently. So, this study was conducted to evaluate the school libraries' facilities and also students' abilities to use school libraries and the state of use education.

The subjects for this study were librarians and school libraries provided with teacher-librarians at middle schools in Uijeongbu city. Librarians and teacher-librarians were asked by surveys and phone interviews, and 100 students from each school were asked by surveys.

According to the results of this study, materials, equipment, and experts at school libraries are currently below standard set by the Korean Library Association. Besides this, use education is usually temporary and repetitive in terms of content. Use education has influenced students' abilities to use school libraries in a positive way. On the other hand, it was proved that neither careers of school librarians nor the way of use education made a difference.

Therefore, the followings are suggested so that use education of school libraries can be turned into information literacy.

First, in order to have efficient use education, there must be enough budgets to pay for materials and equipment. Second, hours for use education must be ensured so that use education can be consistent and systematic. Third, the first graders must be taught with unit lessons, while the second and the third graders must be taught with integrated lessons for use education. Lastly, human resources must be expanded so that every school can be provided with at least one teacher-librarian.
