Abstract
Electrical actuators were made from dielectric elastomer film coated on both sides with compliant electrode materials. When external voltage was applied, the resulting electrostatic forces compressed the film in thickness direction and expanded it in area direction. However, most dielectric elastomers require high driving electric field experimentally. Therefore, to decrease the required amplitude of electric field and still maintain high strain, the composite system using filler is needed. In this research, Poly (styrene-b-ethylbutylene-b-styrene) (SEBS) triblock copolymer filled with various fillers such as Carbon Black (CB), Single Walled Carbon Nanotube (SWCNT) and Copper-Phthalocyanine (CuPc) was studied. The SEBS was plasticized with paraffin oil (T150). Compliant carbon paste electrodes were coated on both sides of the composite films. It showed that electromechanical strain responses of composite consisting multiphased SEBS, mineral oil and fillers such as CB, CNT and CuPc were significantly affected by concentration, type and shape of filler. It has been discussed what is a main contribution factor for electromechanical properties of the dielectric elastomer composites by measuring UTM, Impedence analyzer and displacement measurement using laser sensors.
