Abstract
The new heptamethine cyanine dyes:indoline, benzothiazole and benzoxazole derivatives were synthesized and investigated their photophysical properties. The cyanine dyes were prepared by the condensation of benzazole quaternary ammonium salts(indoline, benzothiazole and benzoxazole groups with activated methylene substituent) with 2-chloro-3-(hydroxymethylene)-5-(4-nitrophenyl)cyclo hexanecarbaldehyde. The absorption maximum of the prepared dyes showed bathochromic shift. The effects of a heteroaromatic ring on the ??max(maxima of wavelength) of cyanine dyes depended on its structure. Therefore a bathochromic shift could be derived from increasing the electron-donating ability of the benzazole rings. The spectroscopic properties of the cyanine dyes were determined in organic solvents and solvatochromism was appeared in various solvents. Hypsochromic shift (blue shift) was observed in polar solvent, methanol. And also halochromism, which was a reversible color change properties by the pH of a solution, was found to the cyanine dye 2. Finally, the new heptamethine cyanine dyes were characterized by mass spectrum, HRMS spectrum, elementary analysis, proton NMR spectrum and UV-VIS-NIR spectrum.
