Abstract
In this work, we report on a novel non-enzymatic glucose sensor based on nafion-coated single-walled carbon nanotube film electrodes decorated with iridium oxide nanoparticles (IrOxNPs-SWCNT). The SWCNT film electrode was first loaded with iridium nanoparticles (IrNPs) by an easily controllable chronocoulometry technique. After that, IrOxNPs were electrochemically grown onto the SWCNT film electrode from IrNPs in a basic medium by cyclic voltammetry (CV). The SWCNT film electrode decorated with electrochemically grown IrOxNPs was characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. In alkaline media, the prepared electrode exhibited a strong electrocatalytic activity toward glucose oxidation as evident by CV. Amperometric measurements had a high sensitivity of 23.21 Acm-2mM-1 and a detection limit of 47.2 M in the linear range of 0.59-13.61 mM. Moreover, the fabricated glucose sensor was quite selective in the presence of interfering species such as uric acid and ascorbic acid.
