Abstract
The number of people who enjoy indoor recreation in Korea is increasing rapidly. Over the past 10 years, the number of belly dancers in Korea has increased tremendously. Currently, belly dancers participate in the dance through regular classes and workshop in which they learn belly dance movements, history, and culture. In spite of the growing concerns of belly dance, researches on belly dancers are limited. This paper examined relationships among motivation, flow experience and life satisfaction in the belly dance participants in Korea in order to meet the necessary. This study was surveyed at the Korea Belly Dance Association, JY Belly Dance Institute in Seoul in October 2011. Both foreign and Korean belly dance participants were surveyed. Questionnaire survey was conducted in this study. The analysis methods were descriptive statistics, factor analysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis. The outcomes implied that the major subject in this study were women, who has good educational ground, moderate annual income, viewed belly dance is a group leisure activity. Intrinsically motivated participants were more easily to experienced flow than extrinsically motivated participants. The subjects were strongly motivated by the interest and enjoyment. However, participants were motivated by external reasons such as rewards and indentified. Some of the major limitations of the research include time consuming of data gathering and analysis, difficulty in managing large matrixes. However, some recommendations and suggestions have been presented.
