Abstract
A promising cathode material with full concentration gradient Li[Ni0.75Co0.05Mn0.20]O2 was synthesized by a co-precipitation method. The compositional distribution from the center to the edge was identified by electron probe X-ray microanalysis (EPMA) on cross-section of a single particle. The electrochemical and thermal properties of the full concentration gradient material were investigated and compared with those of the center composition of Li[Ni0.90Co0.05Mn0.05]O2 and the average composition of Li[Ni0.75Co0.05Mn0.20]O2. The full concentration gradient material had a lower capacity than the center composition and the same capacity to the average composition, but exhibited higher reversibility of lithium intercalation/deintercalation, rate capability and thermal stability.
