dc.description.abstractWhile the repercussions of oil spillage have been reported in marine environment and organisms, limited information is available on their mechanisms in molting system. In the present study, intertidal copepod Tigriopus japonicus were exposed to water accommodated fraction (WAF) of crude oil, and the effects on growth rate from nauplius to copepodid and adult were investigated. In addition, the transcription of ecdysone hormone related genes were measured by real-time RT-PCR. As a control, the antagonistic and agonistic effects on growth and gene expressions in T. japonicus were further examined with Lindane and Ponasterone A, respectively. The growth rates from nauplius to copepodid were significantly retarded at WAF exposure. The modulations of mRNA expressions of ecdysone-triggered gene battery was congruent with the result observed in negative control, lindane. Our observation showed that exposure to WAF could affect the molting system and the growth of copepod T. japonicus.-
