Abstract
Objective : The purpose of this research is to identify the new nurses, preceptor communication style recognized by the new nurses, and the organizational socialization of the new nurses and to ascertain their correlations. Method : This research is the descriptive correlation research to identify the communication style of the new nurses in preceptorship, the communication style of the preceptor recognized by the new nurses, and the organizational socialization of the new nurses. The research was conducted after the approval of the Institutional Review Board of Hospital K located in Seoul after deliberation. The research was conducted on 105 new nurses working in K hospital with preceptorship for 1~12 months. The communication style tool developed by Reece and Brandt modified by Kye-Young Byun was used, and the tool developed by Chao, O’Leary-Kelly, Wolf, Klein and Gardene complemented and edited by Min-Cheol Song was used. The collected data were analyzed by using the SPSS WIN 20.0 program by using the frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation, t-test, oneway ANOVA, Duncan test, Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient, Chronbach’s alpha coefficient. Result : When the communication style of the new nurses is supportive, there were significant differenced with the organization purpose and the value, which are the sub factors of the organizational socialization (F=2.910, p=.083). When the communication style of the preceptor as recognized by the new nurses is supportive, there was a significant difference with the organizational socialization (F=2.849, p=.041). There was a positive relationship between the new nurses’ social tendencies(r=.322, p=.001) and the organizational socialization. There was a negative relationship between the arbitrary tendency of the preceptor(r=-0.282, p=.004) and socialization organization, and there was a positive relationship between socialization tendencies(r=.262, p=.007) and organizational socialization. The new nurses, the communication style recognized by the new nurses, and organizational socialization were respectively Chronbach’s ⍺=.851,.757, .870. Conclusion :There must be efforts made for a more positive organizational socialization by identifying own arbitrary tendencies and social tendencies, and by developing advantages and improving disadvantages to use communication styles of supportive form through the opportunity of identifying one’s own communication style as in this research. Also, conflicts in human relationship may arise when having different communication styles, so if nurses with similar tendencies are placed by categorizing the communication styles in placing preceptors and new nurses in the course of preceptorship, it is considered that it would be much helpful for successful preceptorship and organizational socialization. Implication for Nursing : This research will contribute to the enhancement of quality by suggesting the necessity of the development of a more effective and systematic preceptorship program. Also, it will become the basis for the preparation of a plan to lessen the number of new nurses changing jobs in the same field by enhancing the organizational socialization.
