- Abstract
- A CM diol (2,4:3,5-di-O-camphor-D-mannitol) is bio-based monomer derived from D-mannitol amd D-camphor. Cm diol consists of four hexagonal rings (a quadra-cyclic structure) and primary hydroxy groups that influence the rigidity and provide a reactive moiety. Homopolycarbonate and homopolyester of CM diol were synthesized and the resulting polymers had a high Tg value of 164 oC and 135 oC, which is higher than that of conventional polymers. Bio-based polymers showed enhanced susceptibility to hydrolysis at acidic solution during a period of decomposition. The structures of CM diol and the composition of the bio-based polymers were measured using 1H NMR, 13C NMR and 2D COSY NMR., The molecular weights and PDI were estimated by GPC, and the thermal properties of the polymers were observed using DSC and TGA.
