북한 초기 칼라영화의 형성과정과 특징(1950-1957)

Abstract

이 연구는 1950년부터 1957년까지를 중심으로 북한에서 초창기 칼라영화 제작이 어떻게 이루어졌는지를 다룬다. 북한은 소련의 기술적 지도를 받아 한국전쟁 발발 직후인 1950년 7월 <1950년 5.1절>이라는 행사기록 영화를 김운몽 연출, 홍일성 촬영으로 제작했다. 이 작품은 북한 최초의 칼라영화로 기록된다. 이렇게 시작된 북한의 칼라영화 제작은 전쟁이 장기화되어 북한 내 영화제작 시설이 완전히 파괴되면서 중단되었다.칼라영화의 제작 재개는 휴전 직후인 1955년 8.15해방 10주년 기념으로 제작된 윤득춘 연출, 김인현, 한창해, 홍일성 촬영의 기록영화 <8.15 10주년>을 통해 이루어졌다. 이후 1957년 리영준 연출로 <금강산>이 칼라영화로 만들어졌는데 이러한 대규모의 기록영화 제작은 북한 영화계가 칼라영화 기술의 습득에 얼마나 큰 관심을 기울이고 있었는지를 보여주는 증거이다.기록영화에서의 성과를 바탕으로 예술영화도 칼라로 제작된다. 1956년 최승희의 무용극을 필름에 담은 정준채 연출, 오웅탁, 박경원 촬영의 <사도성의 이야기>가 그 시작이었다. <사도성의 이야기>의 성공적인 칼라기술 접목에 이어 1957년 김락섭 연출, 박병수 촬영으로 <심청전>과 조소합작영화로 제작된 <형제(동방의 아침)>가 천상인 연출, 고형규 촬영으로 완성되었다.특히 조소합작영화인 <형제>는 북한문예계의 큰 관심을 받으며 만들어졌으나 정치적 스캔들로 비화되어 앞선 영화들과 달리 혹평을 받아 사라지게 된다. 이러한 상황을 통해 알 수 있듯이 영리를 목적으로 한 자본주의 영화계와 달리 사회주의 체제 하의 북한에서 칼라영화의 제작은 정치적 스펙터클을 보여주는 도구로 사용되었음을 알 수 있으며 영화의 내적인 결함보다는 영화 외부의 요인으로 인해 평가가 달라진 측면이 있음을 알 수 있다. In this study, I research how the production of the initial color movie was done in North Korea mainly from 1950 to 1957. North Korea, under the technical guidance of the Soviet Union, produced an event documentary film named 5.1 in 1950 with Kim Un-mong directing and Hong Il-sung filming in July 1950, shortly after the outbreak of the Korean War. This work is recorded as the first color film in North Korea. The North Korean color film production that started in this way was stopped because the war was prolonged and the movie production facilities in North Korea were completely destroyed.The resumption of the production of color film was made through the 10th anniversary of 8.15 which was a memorial film for the 10th anniversary of the liberation of Korea in August, 1955. And this film was directed by Yoon duk-choon and filmed by Kim In-hyun, Han Chang-hae and Hong Il-sung. Later, in 1957 Lee Young-joon directed Mt. Geumgang as a color film. The production of such a large-scale documentary film is a testimony to how the North Korean film industry was paying attention to the acquisition of color film technology.Based on the achievements in recorded films, art films are also produced in color. It was the beginning Legend of the Fortress Sado that was about the dance performance of Choi Seung-hee. And that film was directed by Chung Joon-chae and filmed by Oh Ung-tak, Park Kyung-won. Following the successful coloring of Legend of the Fortress Sado, in 1957, Sim Chung, The dutiful daughter directed by Kim Lack-sub and filmed by Park Byeong-soo was produced. And The Brothers(The morning of the East) directed by Chun Sang-in and filmed by Ko Hyung-gyu was a North Korea-and the Soviet Union-made film.In particular, the co-operative film The Brothers was created with great interest from the North Korean literary circles, but it became a political scandal, and unlike the previous films, it gets criticized and disappears. Under these circumstances, as you can see, unlike the capitalist movie circle for the purpose of profit, the production of color movies in North Korea under the socialist system was used as a tool to show political spectacle Understand that it is not an internal defect of a movie, but you can know that the evaluation has changed aspects due to factors external to the movie.
