디지털 시대의 여가와 관광의 의미: 디지털 디톡스 현상과 디지털 프리관광에 대한 탐색적 논의

Abstract

본 연구는 일상화된 디지털 환경 속에서 진정한 여가와 관광은 어떤 의미와역할을 해야 하는가라는 문제 제기에서 출발하였다. 디지털 여가의 특성부터 사회 문제로부각되고 있는 다양한 디지털 역기능의 문제점과 이를 해결하기 위한 사회적 수요에서시작된 디지털 디톡스(digital detox) 현상을 여가·관광의 관점에서 논의해 보았다. ICT 및 모바일 기술 발달이 가져온 연결성은 일상과 관광경험과의 분리를 어렵게 함으로써, 기존의 여행과 관광을 통해 얻을 수 있었던 여러 가지 혜택을 감소시키는 결과를 가져왔으며 이는 디지털 디톡스 관광에 대한 수요를 형성하는 계기가 되었다. 이로 인해 디지털기기와의 단절을 목적으로 등장하게 된 ‘디지털 프리 관광(digital free tourism)’ 은 '완전한 일탈‘을 통해 디지털 환경의 연결성이 주는 압박감과 스트레스의 해소를 위한 수단이며, 동시에 여행이 가진 본래의 의미에 집중하고, 보다 질 높은 관광경험과 삶의 질을 추구하는 형태로 발전하고 있다. 디지털 시대의 관광경험을 보다 더 잘 이해하기 위해서는 디지털 환경의 연결성과 비연결성에 대한 다양한 논의가 필요하며, 현 시대에 필요한 진정한 휴식과 삶의 질의 고양을 위해 여가 및 관광분야의 새로운 노력이 필요함을 시사한다. This study started with the question of what true leisure and tourism should do in digital age. It reviews digital stress and digital addiction, which has emerged as social problems from the characteristics of digital leisure and discusses digital detox phenomenon, which started in social demand to solve such problem, from a leisure and tourism perspective. Connectivity in a travel context brought about by ICT and mobile technology developments has resulted in reduced benefits from traditional travel and tourism by making it difficult to separate daily life from tourist experience. As a result, ‘digital free tourism’ aims breaking up with digital devices, “complete escapism- physical and psychological fully escaped form(liminality)-”. Therefore it is a means of relieving pressure and stress from connectivity to the digital environment, and has developed into a form of focusing on the authenticity of travel and pursuing higher quality tourism experience and quality of life. This paper suggests that better understanding of the tourism experience of the digital age requires a variety of discussions on connectivity/disconnectivity of travel context, and new perspective in leisure and tourism are needed to enhance the quality of life.
