웰니스관광 개념모형 개발- 헤도닉(Hedonic)과 에우다이모닉(Eudaimonic) 관점을 중심으로 -

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 웰니스(wellness)에 대한 철학적 논의와 이론적 배경을 통해 웰니스관광(wellness tourism)을 개념적으로 정의하고 이에 대한 개념모형을 도출하는 것이다. 이를 위해 건강증진을 목적으로 하는 건강관광의 범주 내에서 의료관광, 치유관광, 영성관광 등을 중심으로 관련 개념과의 관계를 규명하고 웰니스관광의 범주를 체계화하였다. 웰니스는 건강에 대한 새로운 패러다임으로 신체적, 정서적, 지적, 정신적, 사회적 건강이 통합된 상태로서 자신의 잠재력을 실현하는 과정이며 궁극적으로 최적의 웰빙에 도달하기 위한 생활방식으로 정의될 수 있다. 따라서 웰니스는 건강의 영역을 통합하는 상위 차원의 개념으로 건강에 대한 일반적인 자아개념으로 볼 수 있다. 웰니스관광은 넓은 범위로는 건강을 목적으로 하는 특수목적관광(SIT: special interest tourism)의 하나인 건강관광(health tourism)의 하위범주로 볼 수 있다. 또한 좁은 범위로는 건강관광의 범위 내에서 질병의 치료를 중심으로 하는 의료관광을 제외한 신체적, 정서적, 지적, 정신적, 사회적 웰니스 향상을 통해 건강을 증진하고자 하는 관광활동이라고 정의할 수 있다. 웰니스관광은 신체건강 증진 및 휴식과 스트레스 감소를 통한 쾌락적(hedonic) 경험뿐만 아니라 자아와 삶에 대한 성찰 및 사회적 관계의 회복과 자연과의 교류를 통한 자아실현적(eudaimonic) 경험을 통해 최적의 웰빙에 도달하기 위한 웰니스 생활방식으로 볼 수 있다. The purpose of this study was to define wellness tourism from a philosophical and theoretical background on wellness, to clarify the categories of wellness tourism, and to draw its conceptual model. For that purpose, the relationship with related concepts such as medical tourism, healing tourism, and spiritual tourism in the category of health tourism for health enhancement was defined, and the category of wellness tourism was illustrated. Wellness is a new paradigm for health, a process of realizing its potential as a state of integrated physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and social health, and can be defined as a lifestyle to reach an ultimate optimal state of well-being. Therefore, wellness can be seen as a general self-concept of health as a higher-level concept that integrates the domain of health. Wellness tourism is widely considered as a subfield of health tourism, a form of special interest tourism for health motivation. It can also be narrowly defined as a tourism activity that enhances health through physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and social wellness enhancement and excludes medical tourism focused on the treatment of diseases. Wellness tourism can be a wellness lifestyle to reach an optimal state of well-being through not only hedonic experiences of physical health promotion, relaxation, and stress reduction, but also eudaimonic experiences of reflecting on life, the restoration of social relationships, and interaction with nature.
