영화 ˂청춘쌍곡선˃(1957)과 ‘부산’이라는 공간의 만남

Abstract

부산은 일본과 가깝다는 지리적 특성으로 인해 초창기부터 한국영화사에서 매우 큰 비중을 차지해 온 도시이다. 또한 시기가 달라짐에 따라 영화 속에서 재현된 부산 역시 그 의미를 달리해 왔다. 부산은 일제 강점기에는 로컬적인 볼거리 혹은 선전·계몽의 수단으로, 해방과 1950년대를 거치면서는 서울과 대비되는 미문명·순수의 공간으로, 또는 전쟁의 상흔과 애환이 표출되는 반공·애국의 공간 등으로 재현되는 경향을 띠어 왔다. 다시 말하자면 영화를 통해 해당 시대에 부산이라는 도시가 지니고 있었던 의미와 역사를 읽어볼 수 있는 것이다. 부산 로케이션 영화인 <청춘쌍곡선>(1957)을 주목해야 하는 이유가 바로 여기에 있다. 이 작품은 사진이 아닌 영상으로 당시 부산의 모습을 확인해볼 수 있다는 점에서 대단히 중요한 역사적 사료라고 할 수 있다. 영화 <청춘쌍곡선>은 1950년대 당시의 시대적 여건에 따라 크게 두 가지의 양상을 보이고 있다. 우선 송도해수욕장이나 영도대교 등 부산의 명소를 통해 스펙터클한 볼거리를 제공한다. 다음으로 피난촌의 판잣집 등의 모습을 드러냄으로써 한국전쟁 직후의 열악한 주거 환경과 고달픈 생활상을 노출한다. 특히 후자와 관련하여, 이 작품은 명랑함과 풍자 등 코미디 영화 특유의 장르적 장치를 십분 활용한다. 이 역시 전후의 고달픈 상황 하에서도 ‘명랑함’을 강조하던 당시의 시대 상황을 반영하는 것이라고 할 수 있다. 한편, <청춘쌍곡선>은 당대의 인기 희극 배우들을 주요 등장인물로 캐스팅하고 유명 대중음악인들을 ‘특별출연’시키며 이들로 하여금 노래까지 부르게 하는 방식 등을 통해 대중적 흥행을 도모한다. 그리고 이 과정에서도 부산을 표기 혹은 암시하는 노래 제목과 가사, 대사 속 사투리 등의 언어적 요소가 부산의 모습을 담은 화면과 연결되면서, 그 흥행 요소는 더욱 증가되고 있다. Especially with regard to the latter, it makes the most of its comedy film-specific genre devices and creates a ‘cheerfulness.’ That is because the society at the time demanded ‘cheerfulness.’ Meanwhile, <Hyperbolae Of Youth> casts popular comic actors and famous musicians of the time as its main characters. They attract the public by singing in films as if performing on stage. The title and lyrics of their song are related to 'Busan.' This works in harmony with the film footage of Busan, which attracts audiences.
