전통 가무(歌舞)의 특성과 융합기술로의 재현(再現)

Abstract

요즘 각 분야에서 융합의 시도가 활발하다. 전통 예술 분야도 전자 기술과 결합하여 상생의 길을 모색하고 있다. 이 글은, 이런 상황에서 전통 예술의 본질적 특징이 어디 있는지 살핀 것이다. 첫째, 가무는 뜻을 형상화한 것이었다. 그러므로 단순히 아름답기만 하거나 재미만 있도록 재현하는 것은 옳지 못하다. 둘째, 전통 예술의 높은 수준을 평가할 때는 늘 자연환경의 반응이 언급되었다. 그러므로 가무의 재현에서 자연 배경이 빠지면 안 된다. 셋째, 노래와 무용은 늘 하나였다. 그러므로 융합기술로 재현할 때 무용만 나올 수 없다. 가무만 결합할 것이 아니라, 나아가 실존 인물과 그들의 사연을 담은 이야기와도 결합할 때 진정한 종합예술이 탄생할 수 있다. 전통 예술이 융합기술로 재현될 때 바로 이러한 본질적 특징을 놓치지 않고 구현되어야 한다는 것이 지적했다.Adopting converging technique is rampant all over the fields nowadays. Its application to that of traditional arts comes with the fusion of electronic techniques. This article, reflecting this trend of fusion, will trace to what an original feature of traditional arts is. Making an embodied shape of the meaning resided in traditional arts would be the first finding to be noted. It brings forth a negative evaluation about a fusion technique only to focus on reconstructing an aesthetic feature or to invite temporal interests of audience. Another finding concerns the kinship between natural surroundings and traditional arts. When reshaping the latter in modern times, it is fatalistic not to consider the backdrop of nature originally embodied in traditional arts. The last feature focuses on the unity between singing and dancing. It denies any converging technique mission one of the features. Singing without dancing and vice versa should not be permissive in convergence. An ideal reshaping lies in making a Gesamtkunstwerk (a synthetic drama), which attempts to converge traditional arts attentive to main characteristics and to major themes, with variously modern techniques.
