위험한 불확실성의 시대, 쓰레기가 되는 삶들: 벡과 바우만을 경유해 ‘지금 이곳’의 주체를 돌아보기

Abstract

이 글은 유연한 서평의 형식을 차용해 얼마 전 타계한 두 유럽 사회학자인 울리히 벡(Ulich Beck)과 지그문트 바우만(Zygmunt Bauman)의 현대사회와 현대성에 대한 예언자적 진단과 해석, 그들의 일련의 저작을 관통하는 주제와 이론들을 소개하고, 이를 통해 ‘지금 이곳’에 던져진 주체들의 삶과 실천, 전략과 대안적 전망을 사유하고 있다. 구체적으로 오늘날 지구화한 신자유주의와 이를 대면하는 개인들의 삶과 분투, 특히 주체들이 경제와 정치를 비롯한 거대한 구조적 힘들에 조응하거나 순치하는, 또는 이를 창의적으로 접합하고 전유하는 실천의 양상에 주목한다. 이 과정에서 채 도래하지 않은 정치적 가능성을 조심스럽게 탐문하고 모색하려는 주체들의 실천과 전략에 관한 시론이다. This article explores two late European sociologists and their series of theoretical concepts. Specifically, this essay analyzes the life and practice, various strategies and alternative perspectives of the subjects ‘here and now.’ For this, this essay focuses on the way the subjects accept and harmonize, or creatively articulate and appropriate the structural forces, including economic and political powers in their everyday lives, and their active inquiry in seeking for progressive political and social possibilities, and their own empowerment, yet to be realized.
