관광을 통한 장애인과 자원봉사자의 사회적 상호작용 경험 분석

Abstract

장애인은 장애의 특성상 자원봉사와 동행하며 관광 활동에 참여하는데, 이는 관광을 통해 장애인과 비장애인이 교류한다는 측면에서 의미 있는 관광 현상이다. 본 연구는 장애인과 자원봉사자 동행 관광에서 나타나는 사회적 상호작용을 분석하는 데에 목적이 있다. 이를 위해, 동행 관광에 참여한 장애인 4명과 자원봉사자 6명을 대상으로 심층 면접과 6회의 참여관찰을 수행하였고, 현상학적 연구의 Colaizzi 방법과 고프만의 사회적 상호작용을 적용하여 분석하였다. 그 결과, 장애인과 자원봉사자들은 대화, 스킨십, 표정, 관찰을 통해 의사소통을 하고 있었으며, 장애의 특성상 스킨십, 표정 등 비언어적 의사소통과 관찰이 중요한 소통의 방식으로 나타나고 있었다. 자원봉사자들은 돌봄의 역할을 수행하는 과정에서 돌봄의 어려움을 경험하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 장애인과 자원봉사자들은 관광을 통해 사회복지사, 다른 자원봉사자, 부모, 다른 장애인과 어울리며 관계를 확장하는 것으로 발견되었다. 이처럼, 장애인과 자원봉사자가 동행하며 관광활동에 참여하는 가운데 사회적 상호작용을 경험하고, 이는 관계의 변화, 행동의 변화로 이어지는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 이 연구는 관광의 두 주체인 장애인과 자원봉사를 포함하여 통합적 관점에서 접근하였다는데 의미가 있다. 또한, 사회 통합을 이끄는 관광의 역할을 강조하고, 긍정적 사회적 상호작용을 유도하기 위한 방안을 제시하였다. Disabled people normally participate in tourist activities with volunteers, and it is meaningful in that the tourism offers a chance for disabled and non-disabled people to interact with one another. This study seeks to identify the meaning of the tourist experience exhibited during an accompanied tour taken by disabled and non-disabled people. Then the study analyzes it in terms of the social interaction exhibited. Data were collected from in-depth interviews conducted with four disabled people and six volunteer workers using six participant-observations. The analysis of data was done using Colaizzi's method of phenomenological study and Goffman’s social interaction system. The results show that disabled individuals and the volunteers communicated through conversation, touch, facial-expression, and observation. Such non-verbal communication was important for the disabled. Volunteers that had experienced difficulties in care, were in conflict with others. Also, disabled people and volunteers were seen to expand their relationships as they related to welfare workers, other volunteers, parents of disabled people, and other disabled people. Hence, disabled people and volunteers experienced social interaction during their accompanied tour, which led to a change in their inter-relationships and tourism behavior. This research is meaningful in that it approached the topic from the integrated viewpoint of two subjects, disabled people and volunteers, within a tourism context. It also emphasized the role of tourism in leading social integration and suggested ways to induce positive interaction.
