This paper proposes the design methodology for a magnetic layer of a single-phase written-pole motor (WPM). Theory of WPM operation is explained and method of characteristic analysis is represented. For design of magnetic layer, the necessary B-H characteristics and mechanical dimension of ferromagnetic layer of the WPM are determined in consideration of demagnetization property, where the demagnetizing field intensity is calculated by the d-q circuit analysis.en_US
