Abstract

This study aims to analyse the community-based planning program, and space of Community Libraries in UK, before proposing the guidelines of Small Libraries in South Korea. Community Libraries and Small Libraries similarly serve as the community centre for local residents with the smallest-sized library spaces. In the past decade, Small Libraries in Korea have failed to enhance the quality of library service due to the lack of guidelines and exemplary cases; on the contrary, the government UK has offered more specific and various standards and guidelines to Community Libraries. In this context, this study analyses the guidelines of Community Libraries and the four exemplary libraries in Lewisham, London.
